How many are left vs made?
Does anyone know how many Type R's were actually produced? Any idea? I'm curious as to how many were made and if possible how many are still around.

Production figures for Japan.
Year....DC2....DB8
1995--1289...292 = 1581
1996--9455...2292 = 11747
1997--4692...908 = 5600
1998--5110...915 = 6025
1999--2253...499 = 2752
2000--2035...229 = 2264
2001--25.......0 = 25
2002--1.........0 = 1
Total DC2's 24,860
Total DB8's 5,135
Grand Total = 29995
Interestingly there was 1 DC2 sold in 2002, apparently it was a yellow ITR-x and was sold to Mugen.

Id like to know this too (esp DB8s) but you'd need to find a way of checking the registration records or whatever in every country they were imported to - let me know if you do...

Just search. There is a graph from Honda that has been posted numerous times on here. If I were on my work computer I think I'd have it. It breaks down years and body (DC2, DB8, DC5) with number sold. It might even be from a hyper rev.

Here's an old thread that has a little bit of info. Its from 2006 though, so the numbers are going to be off. This is for the United States.

The number of thefts is likely to have increased, as they're obviously not in production anymore but they're still getting stolen. That means the "rate of theft" has also increased. In addition to any that have been crashed and totaled out which these numbers don't cover.
There was another thread I believe posted by ROR where they actually plugged in some of the VIN information and got some more numbers, still looking for that thread.
So take the 3850 ITRs, subtract the 400+ thefts and however many have been crashed and totaled and you are a bit closer to the number that you are looking for. That theft number is obviously wrong at this point though. I'd guess it is closer to or over 500 now.

Does that include GS-R's as well as Type R's, or is that only the Type R portion of DC2 production for the Japanese market?
