HELP! Oil leaking from Block/Adapter after Oil Cooler/Remote Filter install!
Hey Everyone,
I need some help here. I just installed my oil cooler and remote oil filter kit and it is leaking at spin-on adapter/block. I'm supposed to tighten this adapter as I would a normal oil filter, right? I loosened the adapter and screwed it back in hand tight, but there's still a slow drip. I don't want to overtighten it. Any advice on what I'm supposed to do to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you checked that the rubber gasket from the previous oil filter was actually removed off the block? That's a possibility.
How much did you tighten it actually? It's recommened that you tighten the oil filter 7/8 of a turn after it's been hand tightened. Perhaps you could try that on the adapter.

Wow, 7/8 of a turn after hand tightening sure seems like it would be too tight, but that's what Helm's says. I always thought that hand tight was as tight as it should be. I'll go ahead and try that, thanks.

Well,
1. I took the lines off the adapter
2. unscrewed the adapter
3. checked the rubber seal (it was o.k.)
4. screwed the adapter back on by hand until the seal seated
5. tightened the adapter an additional 1/3 of a turn with a wrench (that's as far as it would go)
6. and re-installed the lines.
Hopefully that will solve the problem. We'll see.
