Default Front tires rubbing, cutting the wheel on a seam in the top of the wheel well.

Hey,

My car is lowered (front jack points are 4.25 inches from the ground). Where I pull into my driveway, the curb isn't cut so it's a pretty sharp impact for the right front. Sometimes it rubs, and it turns out that each time it rubbed I'd take a sliver of tire out. Sometimes it wouldn't rub (when I go REAL slow).

It's hitting the top of the wheel well near the middle of the tire, there's a seam/edge of the fender that runs behind the wheelwell liner. That sharp edge is where it's rubbing. The tire is a bald 205/45R16, so it's about a half inch shorter than stock.

Does anyone else have this problem? Has anyone taken a hammer to that edge to flatten it? Raising the car is the alternative, and I kinda like it where it is, but I also don't like taking the ol' sledge to the caR.

After a lot more searching, I came up with this sage advice from the Integra forum.

Big hammer it is.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by VTEConly &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">You have to file down that ridge (sharp edge) up inside the fender well or bang the sh*t out of it with a hammer. Mine had ripped the wheel well plastic liner and was sticking out through the liner. That's how I found out what was causing it. I had a cut down the middle of my new Falken Azenis. It happened everytime I went over large bumps or or dips on the street and when auto-xing on uneven rough lots.

Your car is actually lower than mine and pretty low for my standards. Your car is lowered at least 3". Mine is 2.5".
I aslo had 205-15's when this began to happen to me but it only started when I noticed my aftermarket adj. shocks started deteriorating and weren't damping my 650lb springs they way they did before. Raising the car 1/4" should eliminate the problem. This could be an indication that your shocks are going or they don't have enough damping (bump/compression) and they could be riding on the bumpstops. I put my old Konis back on the car after sending them out to be rebuilt and revalved. I no longer have the problem.

It was my failing shocks that was causing it. Again a simple and cheap solution like others said is to beat the crap out of that sharp metal ridge inside the wheel well (at the top) with a hammer, file it down as much as you can, or raise the car a little. </TD></TR></TABLE>

If you cut slits into the seam every inch or so, it will make it much easier to hammer flat. Or you could completely cut it off with a cutting wheel or something, but I think just hammering it flat is much easier.

You can also get ahold of some concrete and make the radius of the curb less dramatic and more sloped. I've seen this a number of times. It is something I have considered several times. You can even be tech and bust up the original curb, lay a pipe in there for drainage purposes then cover the pipe with your new concrete while making the slope much more gradual.

You might be a Type R owner if solving a problem means you'd rather undertake a major home improvement project than damage a part of your car you can't even see.

Yep, that's the plan. I may raise the car a little too. Thanks guys.

You're still going to bottom out at that ride height with the springs you have. The only thing you're going to be changing is what the tire/UCA is going to hit.

You should either raise it, or put some stiffer springs in front.
