Default First time starting car... Few problems *searched*

Ok so first of all thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer. Car in question is a 1996 Honda Integra Type R imported from Japan. Bought the shell and swapped in a B18C ITR engine, bought through hmotorsonline. Anyways, started it up for the first time tonight, car has check engine light and overheating light (WTF?) on and won't rev past ~2600 rpm roughly. My friend thinks it's an o2 sensor. Will buy new in morning, just wanted input. Also, there is a vacuum hose right on top of the throttle body that I cannot find a mate for. Any ideas where this goes? It is right on top of the throttle body facing the intake. I have no idea. Thanks all!

Do you mean the cat heat up light? Or is the temp gauge at H? The "overheating" like may just be the cat warming/heat circuit. We don't have those lights on USDM cars so I'm not sure if that goes away when it gets warmed up or if it's telling you there's a problem.

How in the world is that post going to help him? At least tell him what they are.

FWIW, assuming that ECU returns the same codes as the USDM car does:
3 = Map sensor
7 = TPS (throttle position sensor)
14 = IAC valve.

Now for 3 and 7, the plugs are the same and inches apart, you likely just have them reversed. Swap the plugs and see if that goes away (may have to reset the ecu).

Does the JDM motor have an idle air control system? What ECU are you using?

Oh yeah, post a pic of the vacuum hose you are talking about, and related hoses (where it starts, anything tee'd to it, etc)

Dave, thank you so much. I knew that code 3, 7 and 14 were all the sensors, but I didn't know if all three of them were the luck of the draw with this swap or maybe a sign of a bad ecu. Thank you all for the info, will take a multi-meter to it tomorrow.

Before bothering with the multi meter, just swap the TPS and MAP plugs. I've done so before and had issues, until I noticed the VAFC showing completely inaccurate throttle %, then remembering that I had both unplugged earlier.. swapped the plugs and all was well again.

By P73 do you mean a USDM ECU? I'm certainly not an expert on this subject, but I'm pretty sure the JDM motor is misssing sensors and such that the USDM ECU checks for, one may be the IAC. Again, not sure.. find the guys here who know the JDM cars/motors and check in the Hybrid forum.

Will do, thank you. It should be the jdm p73 ITR ecu, it came as a motor/trans/ecu package from hmotors

Gotcha.

It's unlikely that the engine would arrive with 3 bad sensors (or so I'd hope, I've never had that many bad sensors on swaps before). Hopefully the two plugs are just reversed, which just leaves you with the IAC to troubleshoot. If you need the pages relevant to IAC testing from the service manual let me know. I'd assume they are the same for the JDM and USDM motors so they should be fairly accurate. I can take pics of the pages from a 98 service manual if needed.

Put a chevy tree-fiddy in that somnabitch. It's a direct bolt in swap, except it uses a modified VTECH solenoid that splits the VTECH to allow both heads to VTECH. ****'s hella fresh.

Reason it's throwing codes is simple. The codes are 3, 7, and 14

3+7+14=24
24/3(the number of codes it's throwin)=8

It's begging you to V8 swap the **** out of it!!!

Anyways... here's an update. MAP and IACV were easy fixes. That left the TPS. Replaced the TPS today, still throwing TPS code. It will rev all the way to redline, but VTEC does not engage.

Thank you, was told by a tech at Acura that it would not throw a code if it was just calibration... I thought that was weird because if it was not seeing the right voltage... CEL. Thanks for the assurance
