Default Mill the Head?

I was wondering what ways you can raise the compression. I know headgasket, milling the head and new pistons.........Id like to get my compression up a little bit, currently its at 11:1 sense its jdm, how much would milling the head raise my compression? Is milling the head safe or does it cause problems sometimes? Trying to keep the car reliable but dont have the $ to rebuild the bottom or the head. How much does milling the head usually cost? I know all shops are different but throw up a ruff number for me.

thanks

Once you mill a head, it's milled and no turning back.

Just a friendly reminder...

well are there any downfalls to milling a head?

i dont plan on going turbo on this motor, just wanna make some na power, was wondering what kinda compression i could get to simply by milling the head

The big disadvantage is that you cannot turn back, just like Bbasso said. Gains are EXTREMELY minimal if you have minor engine work done to your vehicle. Better gains can be found elsewhere without compromising your cylinder head.

alright well basically this is what my setup is gonna be and im trying to make the most power w/it possible

jdm 98 itr
2.5" catback
high flow cat
"e-cut out before cat for open header on desire"
jdm header "going to upgrade to hypertech/smsp"
homemade itb's "usuing 46mm throttle bodies"
bc3 cams
bc3 cam gear
hondata

i figured with a higher compression ratio my cams/itbs would be more effective thus creating more power, but reliability is key, gonna be driven alot sometimes and sometimes wont be driven for weeks, itbs wont be a problem, have a very good tuner here

You'd be better off having the head ported and polished then milling it. as for gains what are you looking to get and for what application?

IF you have a good tuner there then clay the motor and see what head gasket you could go with, you might be able to run a thinner one then stock.

btw that cat-cut-out thing destroys flow characteristics. I'd like to see the losses/gains with that on there and without.

As you said you will be going with either smsp or hitech then consider the complete exhaust system from them. those two companies have systems that are proven to make some pretty good power gains.
As for the homemade ITBs... Consider real ones like Jenevy although they cost a pretty penny they also make power.

and if you use a full exhaust system you could ditch that e-cutout thing and stay quiet.

These mods are just bolt on mods, you would probably need to do more extensive work like porting the head and possibly HC pistons.

If I were you, I would visit http://www.alaniztechnologies.com and see what Joe has to offer you. He is in my opinion the BEST cylinder head machinist around.

alright, ill give joe a call and get some info

my power goal is around 200whp without touching the bottom, i figured a good header/exhaust and itb's with cams and a higher compression would get me there

ps: im gona also take a look at there exhaust systems, i was planning on changing mine at around the same time alot of this is installed/tuned anways

Joe is the perfect guy to go to if you want to achieve over 200+whp.

Edit: 200+whp using all Honda components.

I have a similar set up so search BC 3+ 's in the all motor forum and you will see my dyno graph of it with out the head being milled

I later milled my head 0.02, used omni high compression valves and built the head
I made 3 more whp and 2 more torque. But it smoothed out my A/F and the curve is smooth all the way up instead of having a dip
