Default Crashed into a deer on my way from a short trip

I spent three days at the coast of the Netherlands in the sun, had no room and nowhere to sleep... I didn`t sleep a minute during 50 hours but the trip was nice...

Yesterday night, I already had crossed the border to Germany, I was driving at a speed of 180km/h on the Autobahn, the bloody body of a deer appeared in front of me. I had no chance to see it more soon because it was dark like the ocean at night.

Behind me drove my gf with our little boy in the car. I was afraid she`d make a terrible mistake if I decide to turn the wheel very quick so I held the steering wheel tight and went for it straight.

The hit was horrible but I flatened the deer enough so my girlfriend just drove through the jam.

A few hundred meters we pulled aside and the first I noticed was THAT smell...I took a light and looked under the car. Nothing damaged (thank god) but everything that was inside this deer was splattered from the bumber to the muffler.... Skin and "internals" of the beast hung down from the header, the cat, and were wrapped around the stabilizer.

Guys,
that load of blood and the stink from the damned hot cat and exhaust, baking the ****.... I still can smell it in my nose. After 50 hours without sleep, far away from home in the middle of the night and a car covered with blood... My little horror trip.

I cleaned the car`s bottom as good as possible with a steam jet but still there are pieces of skin at the header...

But overall...glad to be home now....

ug, I think I'm going to be sick...

but for thinking of the GF and the little one behind you and making the decision you did. I've been in a car when someone swerved to miss a deer, only to over-correct and run the car off the road. Luckily for them, in this case, running off the road was less damage then hitting the deer.

An American whitetail deer would have messed up your car rather bad, enough that it would have been undriveable.

Well anyway glad all of the people are ok but sad to see a deer go down.

Nope... It was indeed a deer... a smaller kind but it was lying on the concrete with broken legs I guess.... It fit under my bumper legs first and my car was kinda lifted over it. Header and cat ripped of it`s body I guess so the internals hung down from the bottom later... I knew it was alive before i came along because it`s head was moving....

I did not shoot any pics because I was looking fopr my gf.. She took a look under my car too, saw that bloodbath and had to throw out..... My boy was sleeping.

All I can offer are pics of the trip not of the mess..

Glad you are ok Sven!!

Mugen Mike ran over a dead deer too, I don't think he had as much dead deer parts on his car as yours, but I remember him cleaning it off at autocross.... gross.

Let the remains stay on the header for 30 minutes while keeping the car revved to 4500rpm. Then let sit for 2 hrs, sprinkle some salt and bam you have the finest deer jerky out there.

I can hear you....

See that skin on the pic ? When I cleaned my car with the steam cleaner I held it very near to a piece of skin hanging down from the bottom. It got loose and suddenly a piece of bloody meat with skin on it , big as my fist, flew 2 meters beside the car... Right in front of a guy who was walking around at the gas station... He looked at me with a strange look in his face.. I told him he can keep it if he`s no vegetarian....... I can`t describe the way he looked at me.... I guess he was getting sick....

Glad everybody is ok. Seems like the deer are out to get us, cuz one HIT ME about 2 months ago. Smacked into the side of my car (and I was going pretty fast), took out the mirror, missed the door, and thumped into the rear panel. Took the antenna with him.

Actually, I never saw it, being pitch black outside. Might've been a werewolf. I guess I can DNA-test the fur...

WOW You guys must have Small Deer in Germany.... Hey isn't the German word for deer the same for Animal?

In Maryland there are Possums that will take your bumper off. A deer hit my Uncles Solara and nearly totaled it. No I didn't make a mistake. He was traveling on the BW parkway and a family of deer was out for a night stroll. He missed the first medium sized one and barely nicked the largest one. He stopped his car and looked around for the deer and WHAAAAAM!!! Deer hedbutts the Solara's Passenger side door. My uncle was stunned and sat there for a while and the Deer Hit him again. After realizing that this was like a scene from when animals attack my uncle floors it and gets out of there. More than 2800 dollars in body work alone and thats not including the paint.
Glad everyone is fine. Good thinking by not turning and just taking it head on.

Taking a deer head on... have you seen those pictures? Deer can destroy Dodge Durango's... that's like committing yourself to probable grievious bodily harm in an ITR. But you took it for your wife and kid, which makes you

i'm happy nobody was hurt. i'm also glad the car is ok, especially after your previous run-in with an animal on the track.

similar thing happened to me, but fortunately the deer carcass had been flattened enough by other cars that i just ended up with some fur between the cat and the exhaust. i also had to clean a dead bird out of my front lip the other day.
