change brake pads all at once? or front/rear one at a time?
my fronts are giving in (squeeking in reverse)
how do i check my rear brake pads?
when i change my fronts, should i just change the whole set?

Look between the spokes at the caliper. You can usually see how much pad you have left. Front brakes do most of the braking, so the rears could be fine.
You don't necessarily have to change both ends. I need to change my rears soon.

Just change one axle at a time, when it's worn down to about 2 mm of pad material remaining.
There's no need to change rears when your front pads are worn.
