Default Bushings for Mugen 26mm rear sway

Bushings for Mugen 26mm Rear Sway « » 7:10 PM 8/20/2014 Reply Edit

I recently bought a Mugen 26mm rear sway bar that did come with bushings.

What are my options at fitting a new set of rear bushings. I have searched high and low and there are no 26mm rear bushings available.

I called Kings Motorsport and was told my best chance would be to modify a 24 or 25mm rear bushing for use with the bar?

I know the Civic Si 99-00 has 26 OEM bushings for the front sway, will that work for a rear bar?

Any suggestions and/or help will be greatly appreciated

Kain

How do I proper enlarge/drill out a smaller bushing to fit a larger bar?

You might be able to find a set of 26mm Energy Suspension sway bar brackets (hopefully greasable) like http://www.ebay.com/itm/Energy-Suspension-3-5152R-Rear-Sway-Bar-Bushings-with-new-Brackets-26mm-/140446142828?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20b33e116c&vxp=mtr , and if not, then probably could use 1" Energy Suspension greasable sway bar brackets like
Amazon.com: Energy Suspension 9.5161G 1" Greasable Sway Bar Set: Automotive"]Amazon.com: Energy Suspension 3.5152R 26mm Rear Stabilizer Bar for Corvette: Automotive Amazon.com: Energy Suspension 9.5161G 1" Greasable Sway Bar Set: Automotive"]Amazon.com: Energy Suspension 3.5152R 26mm Rear Stabilizer Bar for Corvette: Automotive
since 1" is 25.4mm, so pretty close to 26mm. Search Amazon and E-bay as needed, and double check part numbers on Energy Suspension's website as needed. It looks like if you search for 'sway bar set', then it hopefully includes the metal brackets.

When I had a 22mm rear bar on my track car (2000 Civic hatch), I got 22mm greaseable rear brackets with bushings from Amazon, and they worked great. I eventually switched to a 24mm rear bar, and the kit that I got from Amazon didn't have the brackets, but instead, just the bushings. The greasable rear bushings are nice so you can easily grease them. The greasable bushings may space the sway bar out slightly, but probably will work OK.

PS - I did a quick search for a 26mm rear Mugen bar, and it looks like there isn't anything to keep it centered, so it doesn't move too far left or right. If so, you might be able to use split collars (like aluminum ones from McMaster Carr) just inside each D-ring, or if there isn't room, you might have to resort to something like I did in post #7 of thread https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...766&p=49298873. Anyway, hope it works out well for you. - Jim

Jim thank you so much for your post. It definitely helps me in formulating a solution to this problem.

The 26mm bushings from the 99-00 si would work. The brackets, depending on the hole locations should work as well. Bushings are bushings.

The shape for the front bushing is slightly different in that it has a longer "extension" than the rear (from looking at Hardrace bushing pictures). I was thinking of shaving/grinding down so it will match the shape of the rear.
