Beware To All Those With Clutches That Make a Clicking Noise
I met with Floyd (from this board) tonight because he thought he was hearing noises from his car that he wasn't supposed to be hearing. It turns out that both of our cars make the same sound and I also found out that my car was making a sound that his wasn't.
The first sound is this "raspy" sound that I hear right before I fully let the clutch pedal out. After further inspection, I also hear it when my car is in neutral and I push down the cluth pedal about 1/2 an inch...up to the point where I feel pressure on the pedal.
The second noise that I hear is the clicking clutch. This is more evident when I'm standing still and then I engage first gear. The click usually happens when I'm letting out the clutch and the initial engagement occurs. I thought that this was no big deal since I've heard a lot of Integras have this "sickness." I became a little suspicious when I also heard the clicks when I was slowing down. I'm usually in second gear slowing down to a stop. When my car starts jerking, I hear a constant click for every jerking motion my car does.
So I brought it to the dealership tonight and I find out that they suspect that one of the springs on the clutch broke. I was lucky enough to have a cool service techinician work on my car. He said the NoVA peeps would know him as Leuitenant (?spelling?) Dan. Anyway, bottom line is that I need a new clutch and pressure plate, and maybe even a flywheel. He said that after 15K miles, this isn't usually covered under warranty but I explained to him that most of the driving I do is on the highways (I know...my Type R has led a sad life so far). I take it to redline once in a while but I've never launched my car by dropping or slipping the clutch.
I guess the lesson here is, sometimes, maybe it's not the lack of insulation that causes you to hear noises. Maybe there is something truly wrong with the car.

Yea, spring seat on the PP. Same thing happened to me.... If it's warrantied, great, if not, decide whether or not you want to put in a nice aftermarket clutch/PPP (flywheel JDM FD while you're at it ), but they might deny all future driveline warranties....
good luck

I think I'm hearing the same noises. But to me it isnt a click but more of like a whine when I push the clutch down and shift into gear. Also, say I get it fixed now, is it going to show up again like it did the first time? Thanks

Oh, I forgot to mention that they're going to order a new throw out bearing?! I think that's what it's called. Does anybody know how this could have happened? Like I previously mentioned, I don't abuse the clutch in any way. I may not be the best manual transmission driver in the world, but I don't think I'm bad enough to cause this kind of damage.

On another note, save up for the Spoon header so we can still be brothers after the holiday season. Oh yeah, make sure you get somebody to grind their car against your front bumper so that it leaves a nice scratch.

Re: Beware To All Those With Clutches That Make a Clicking Noise (CPR)
I had this problem in my car.
I brought it in - I told them it was making the click noise - but it wasn't consistant. They couldn't duplicate it... (typical) they said "bring it back when it's consistant"
The next time I brought it in - I was PUSHING IT (literally pushing it, sister steering and me and the security gaurd that was there that night pushing the car up to the service area).
Cost me 99 bucks for the tow. The rest (clutch f disk, pres plate, t/o bearing, and flywheel) was covered as a "one time courtesy fix."
Spring broke.
Oh - and the symptoms go something like this:
click noise for a few months - intermittant
THEN
difficult to shift (is my clutch not dis/engaging?) for a day
THEN
can't shift - clutch will not "de-clutch"
THEN
operates in whatever gear you were in before can't shift - don't think about stopping (or shifting)
THEN
if you're me - you thought - "I can shift without a clutch - I'm tha MAN!"
THEN
you STILL can't shift - so now you're stuck in neutral - and the car operates in "coast only" mode
______
My Type R is for sale (new clutch assembly!)

I'm glad you're going to get your issue resolved. I'm not sure what to do about my noise. Although I think I heard it in your car too, it was much softer than mine, so I'm still worried. I guess I'm an automotive hypocondriac.

Oh no, mine made a clicking noise when I first got the car last year. The clutch would make a clicking noise right before it was all the way down, but I haven't heard it for about 6 or 7 months. Everything feels good, should I check anyway?

Re: Beware To All Those With Clutches That Make a Clicking Noise (TypeR01-424)
My R has been making tis noise for the last 27k miles. At 7k miles, Acura put a new pressure plate, clutch disc, and throw out bearing. There was no disc damage. The only thing they could find was that some of the fingers on the pressure plate were raised. It still didn't fix it. This past september, I lef the car with them for a week while I was on vacation. The installed a new pressure plate, once again raised fingers, and a new pilot bearing. It still makes the noise. Try this test. Accelerate slowly in 2nd or 3rd gear. While accelerating, tap you foot on the clutch pedal 10-20 times. The frequency of the clicking follows the engine RPM. I hve no idea what it is, Acura has no idea, I'm just waiting for something bad to break.

As for mine, the clicking is attributed to the transmission internals (clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing). The clicking sound doesn't go away and is consistent. I suggest you have your dealership look at it if you have the same symptoms that I described in my first post.

Perhaps I'm being dense, but I can't tell that it was actually definitely covered under warranty.

George - Yes, it is being covered by warranty.

I hear a clicking noise sometimes, but it sounds like it is coming from the pedal inside the car and not the clutch. Anyone have experience with that kind of sound?

Anywayz, I went to few places to have this problem check...and most people said my clutch is fine....and i just need to get a transmission fluid change in order to get rid of the humming noise...as for the clutch...i just have to spred some lubrican on the throw out bearing. IS THIS CORRECT? or was my problems more complicated than that? My clutch grabs fine....could my spring be lose? Anyone has any ideas?

Re: Beware To All Those With Clutches That Make a Clicking Noise (Pure R Racer)
Pure R Racer,
What you describe is similar to the noise I am experiencing. It occurs when there is a light load, or no load, on the transmission. In other words, it is most noticeable when I am decelerating, or cruising downhill, etc. It hapens in any gear, but is most noticable at lower speeds because road noise isn't an issue. My sound is more of a rumble/rattle. If I sit parked, with the car in neutral and rev up the engine to around 3k, and hold it there, it is noticable, and goes away when I press the clutch, and returns when I release it.
The clutch clicking I experienced sounded like it was in the pedal movement itself. Maybe part of the return spring, or hinge itself. As I pressed the clutch in, there was a point in the travel where I heard, and felt, a sharp click. The car could be turned off and parked and I could produce the noise. Sometimes it would click multiple times, but it hasn't done it in a few months.

Re: Beware To All Those With Clutches That Make a Clicking Noise (God)
The click on when my clutch pedal is pushed comes and goes on my car. I brought it to the dealer and they replaced the bushings and springs under warranty. No friggen difference the sound is still there.
I'll get it looked at next year. It's such a pain leaving the car at the dealer.
