Hey guys this is my first topic over here on the other side of the tracks! I currently own a beautiful 1998 GS-R with all the type R goodies, you know the jdm motor/trans/seats/full mugen exhaust, it goes on and on as i'm sure MANY of you heard/read over here on HT. BUT as many of you fortunate ITR owners know it just isn't the same as a purebred Integra Type R

With that being said, over the past year I really been wanting to purchase an ITR for my own garage! It's just something about a Type R that just make you feel at one with your vehicle. Also i'm sure owning a piece of Honda Racing history and Honda itself is a thrill all in it's own.

I'm currently 24 going on 25 and i somewhat recently got a job at New Jersey Transit where my position and salary can only go up so i strongly believe it's the right time to start seriously putting some thought,money, and time into a new project. I even picked up a second job to help me put some more funds away to start this project of mine! I know some of you are thinking that this is quite long and detailed, but i'm sure others of you know exactly where i'm coming from and can connect with my passion of owning a piece of racing history.

I'm planning on keeping my GS-R for my daily and also so i can swap some parts over to my hopefully soonish to be ITR (Recaro front and rears and Mugen exhaust). I have the garage space and the tools (used to work at saturn and honda as a technician)

I want some what of a project that i can slowly rebuild/restore in my spare time and most importantly have fun while doing it. I can't afford just to buy one thats all show room quality and ready to go.

So here is where the real reason for this topic comes into play. I'm looking for one with hopefully a motor that i can send out to be rebuild and one that has the main body intact. I don't have the funds or know how to repair bodywork unforintilly.. So you know bumpers/front fenders/doors/hood/some interior ect ect that need to be replaced/painted is no big deal/deal breaker. That being said i know.. well i think my best bet is to buy a salvaged or theft recovery vehicle. RIGHT? I'm not 100% sure on that if any of you want to shed some light on.
If that is my best bet then what would be the best route to go down to find one of these diamonds in the rough? I currently live in New Jersey and i dont even know where to start to find theft recov/salvaged itr's. any advice would be awesome! thanks in advance guys!

honestly, i say it would probably be best to save your pennies and just wait for a deal. my car was in horrible shape and the average honda guy will say i overpaid for it but you have to take everything into account when shopping for an R

What's your price range? You'll be amazed at what you can find if you keep searching. I've had 5 R's now and have had luck on these sites

Honestly, I would wait out for a clean R with higher miles as they're not too much more then a salavage one and you'll get better resale value for it later

Hey thanks for some true honest answers ha seems hard to find them around here lately. So you guys think its more worth it to find one thats already in good shape instead of doing it yourself? i mean i can understand that because the money you put in you really won't get back. Like modding you car, you will always get more for your money when buying a car that already has all the parts on it..

As far as a budget.. guess i should've stated that in my original post. well when i made the post i wanted to "restore" one so my budget just for the car was 6,000-7,000.
Now for a more put together R my budget is around 6,000 on the low end too about 11,000 - 12,000? again doesn't have to be mint.
And thanks for those sites! ill definitely start my search today

Also generally when a ITR comes up for sale do they stay up for sale for awhile or do they get snatched up pretty quickly?

Alright thanks man, yeah iv been looking on there for a few months now and nothing really in my area has popped up..
And craigslist is a pain in the *** because you can only look up like sections of a state at a time haha very tedious. unless theres a way to search the whole state that i dont know about

Here's a little help with Craigslist...do a Google search for Searchtempest

It comes up automatically with a range of 400 miles, but you can expand that distance.

When you find an itr, make sure that it has the original USDM B18C5 engine, otherwise the car's value falls off by thousands of $$$.

X2 on copart...but honestly save your money for a clean title. It will be worth it when you go to resell it. Otherwise you will have to part it out to get your coin back....

Our weather is just rain, we rarely get snow and don't use salt so our cars are good, but people are broke here and can't afford tuner cars over 3-4k, and most prefer AWD here because of the rain. That's why if you ever came to Seattle, all you will see is wrx etc. This is all based on personal experience buying selling and owning cars.. but you will find 2-3 ITRs on Seattle Craigslist etc..

If you check ITRCA daily...and i mean daily, you will find what you are looking for. The cars that are posted for sale there are typically well cared for. Anything advertised over there is questioned and combed clean if anything smells fishy at all. Some might say we break *****....however the community that exists over there is very close knit and strives to ensure that the reputation associated with that site is maintained in professional manner. For the record i have no affiliation with the site other than the fact that i am a previous owner who has bought and sold an ITR using that site.

I'd also say wait and keep searching for one that's not wrecked, I've been looking for the right one for over 4 years, almost bought a wrecked one for 4 grand and talked myself out of it then a 2001 nhbp one badge 01-0184 with 96k miles and clean title fell in my lap, only paid 7 grand for it, I wanted a Phoenix yellow one originally but couldn't pass up the deal, and this is in a small Florida town, so if u keep looking karound you'll find one, that's just my 2 cents

Yeah i know, patience is key i guess. Just got to keep looking and waiting for the right one. What color did you end up getting? i really dont want a black one for the one and only reason that my GSR is black and im planning on keeping her for a daily and a part swapper. seats, exhaust, ect ect

DAMN just saw on the classifieds on here a type r for sale that needs a bit of work. no engine and has ls front and rear axle swap guess to fit drag slicks right in maryland. probably like 2 hour drive! BUT car is black! ughhh.......... wants like 2400

I ended up getting a black one, it was my last choice in color but well worth the money so couldn't say no. Plus it came with original everything books, window sticker, even contact info for the salesman who sold it originally . It was bought local here and spent its whole life here, have every maintenance record for it all they way down to receipts for windshield wipers. It is cherry..
