Best gear ratios for 4.785 FD?
Ive decided to keep my fully built Type R so I'm going to rebuild the transmission this week. I'm thinking I'll do the JDM ItR 4.785 F.D. but I do want to be able to drive on the freeway. I know I won't like pinning the motor at 4700 rpm when I'm at 80mph. So im thinking of keeping the first 3 gears ItR and then going to a LS 0.966 4th and 0.714 5th. This would allow me to do up to 136mph in 4th at 9k rpm and then also be able to drive 80mph in 5th and only be at 3900rpm prolonging engine life and increasing gas mileage not to mention the noise when driving for a few hours. Any thoughts? Has anyone done this same setup with their S80 transmission?

Re: Best gear ratios for 4.785 FD?
Why went ten steps forward and thinking about taking three steps back ward?
Mine is fully built with 4.7fd and it doesn't bother me a bit and it is a dd. If you do a search, you will find that most people regret for going with the LS 5th gear.

Re: Best gear ratios for 4.785 FD?
My thought is go with the .966 LS 4th gear so I can get another 18mph out of it (oem is 129mph with the 4.4FD, or 118mph with the 4.785). Realistically I'll prob never drive the car over 136mph so 5th will just be a over drive for the freeway. If I stay with OEM 4th and 5th gear and a JDM ItR 4.785 FD then at 118mph I have to switch to 5th if doing a 1/4mI.

you can always extend redline with higher top end profile cams if you are all motor to go a little faster in each gear
