Aftermarket clutch, stock pressure plate ok?
I changed the clutch in my honda type r. I was looking for clutches but was wondering if i can use an aftermarket clutch with a stock pressure plate? i have a B18C5 engine and am thinking about buying the ACT 3000105 which is the Perf Street Sprung Disc. Thanks

Why wouldnt you just replace it all while your in there? I mean you could do all this work and put it back together and the pressure plate could fail. If it was me I would replace it all. Are you machining the flywheel?

it's never a great idea to mix match brands with the disc/plate. clearances may be slightly different, then again it might work fine. personally i would buy the disc that matches the pressure plate that you have.
you have a stock R which means you have like no torque.
unless you're running slicks a stock disc will hold up for a long time

Never liked the feel of the stock pressure plate...felt like was going to put my foot through the floor. The ACT heavy duty pplate is perfect.

The stock ITR plate doesn't feel weak at all at the pedal. Op...why not buy an entire exedy stage1 kit for like $250ish? How old is your pressure plate?

this is my vote. the exedy 1 is down to under 250 shipped now and it's a heavily reinforced stock disc. stronger pressure plate. heavier springs and thicker construction. that and a super smooth engagement

Exedy Stage 2 gets my vote. One of the best mods I've done to the R besides the Toda header. I just prefer the quick reaction with a puck clutch and the durability in a racing environment.

lordy i hated this clutch when i had it. couldn't stand the chatter in 1st and reverse. yes it hits hard and yes it doesn't slip even with moderate boost but the chatter is rough. harsh engagement is also hell on gears when you're on the road course and downshifting into a turn. for what it is, it's not bad but it's absolutely going to cost most people time if they can get away with an organic

I literally have no problems at all with it. Smooth as can be where it feels like I have a CVT transmission driving normal on the streets. I guess I'm just very in tune with shift drops and working the pedals. Not trying to toot my own horn because I'm far from a professional... but I find it easy to drive. Then again I've pretty much learned how to drive on my own with a race clutch to begin with.

My S2000 had a hyper single. That was SOOOO effing annoying on the street. Even more effing annoying leaving las vegas at 5pm on Sunday to go to L.A. Traffic driving sucked ***, basically.
But it was awesome on track. I had to tap the pedal about 1/2" to shift. So much better than stock on a road course. That thing provided smooth and lighting fast shifts at speed.
It was like an on/off switch clutch. Lots of noise, lots of chatter had to rev to 3k+ to get it moving, 2500lb pressure plate made.for a heavy pedal....wore out in 22k miles :/
Would not recommend any puck clutches for a predomininatly street driven car personally.
