Default Accidentally put 2.5 gallons of 89 octane in the tank...

So this morning I stopped to get gas at some shitty gas station where the pump is all mixed up with the normal gas in the middle instead of on the left side, like EVERY OTHER DAMN GAS STATION ON THE PLANET... Anyway, in a tired stupor I put about 2 and a half gallons of 89 octane 'Plus' gas in my car, reset my tripometer, and noticed what I was doing and let out a big string of curses. I then filled the rest of the tank up with 93 octane 'Premium' gas. Will mixing octanes like this cause any damage to my car? I don't notice it running or driving any differently... Just a very stupid mistake on my part.

you will be fine, the other 8 gallaons of 93 octance will raise the level sufficiently

drive on...no worries

Don't worry about it.

Even if you filled the entire tank with 89 octane, it shouldn't hurt anything; the engine computer should detect the lower octane and retard the timing to adjust for it. Your performance would suffer, but it wouldn't hurt anything. Performance would be back to normal on subsequent tanks.

Like others have said, since this is less than 20 percent of your tank in your case, it shouldn't make a whole lot of difference.

Run, as fast as you can, your car is now a time bomb ticking the seconds of your life away!!!

You're totally fine. Even if you filled it to the brim with 89, the knock sensor would detect problems, and might make it run stupid, but it'd basically be OK unless you stayed at WOT & 8500. You're probably still above the 91 octate minimum recomended limit with the mix you've got in there, remember 89 is the M/RON minimum octane of the fuel.

That surely would be a totally different story but it would be impossible. Diesel gas pump nozzles are designed bigger to not fit regular gas tank.

I did notice just a little ticking, what's the best thing to do at this point, just drive the car until my gas is so low i'm running on fumes and then fill it up, or keep diluting it with premium?

Just put more 93 in after you have used up a few gallons, try to dilute it as much as possible.

Go get some octane booster if you're worried..

(please don't start debating that it doesn't work)

I wouldnt worry about it. The computer should automatically retard timing.......should it not?

Eiter way, as stated before, the octane will be raised because you added the 93. The important thing is to not let it happen again .

I have done the same thing to my R, I put a full tank of normal before. I was freaked out too.... I bought octane booster and fuel injector cleaner. I never felt the car run any different.

I know there is nothing to worry about becuase I have done it. Just makes you think lowly of your self becuase you cant belive you let that happen to you baby. She will forgive you when you giver her a nice wash!

*pssssst* Remember that shiny little silver book that comes with the car!? Yeah the one called the "Owners manual" or something like that. Seek and ye shall find, search for fueling the integra and your questions will be answered.

Edit: I've put in an entire tank of 90 before, and didn't feel a thing, so again, I'm sure you're fine.

Default ECU will automatically detect knocks and retard the timing enough to stop the knocking

You'll just produce less hp

There was an article where they put 87 opctane in a GSR, and it produced less horsepower, I guess the car's computer cuts back. Then, it took multiple tanks of 91 octane to bring the HP rating back up to normal. Two days ago the monkey at the Sunoco station put 6 gallons of 87 octane into my car, right after I asked for 93 octane. It's my fault for not watching him like a small child so he doesnt mess up my difficult request. So for now, it seems to run the same as it did before, there's no way the butt dyno can detect any loss of Hp so far. I'm going to run it down to vapors and then fill up with 94 octane at the pump, probly for two tanks worth, then go back to my regular 93 octane. Never again will I trust the non-high school graduate criminal who is pumping my gas at shitty New Jersey gas stations.
