Re: Wheel bearing problems
jack up the tires, grab them and see if you can rock them in and out of the tire well( life towards the engine and back to you) if it moves, the bearings are bad...
replacing them sucks... the are pressed in so you have to take off the spindle set and take it to a shop or if you know anyone who has a 2 ton + press you will be set.
you push out the hub, then the bearing and then the reverso order to put it back in...
all in all, its not to bad. just becareful pushing the new bearing in, you can easily mess them up. good luck.

Go to this thread that I made on replacing wheel bearings. I am doing the other side this weekend as it is so loose now you can move the wheel alot.

Mine is due and it hums like crazy. If you can't push out the bearings with a press, you can simply change the hub and most kits come with a new bearing. More expensive yes, but less work and you can easily do it.

Re: Wheel bearing problems
Theres a new tool that makes it real easy and can be done in about 20-30 minutes. I forgot who makes it, but check the typical tool trucks.

Re: Wheel bearing problems
when mine went out on my left spindle there was no warning, just went around a curve one day and heard the most god awful grinding noise, driving straight you could not hear it just around curves, when i jacked up my car you could move the wheel ALOT, i was told by someone that its the worst one they ever seen, ha. now i got to do my right side, it moves a little. i just went to auto zone, bought new bearing and lower ball joint - looked rough, and went to a machine shop, they charged me 60 to press in both, all in all spent about 125 for new ball joint and wheel bearing pressed in.
