What is the difference between integra GSR and vti-r? I'm in Australia and own a 1994 VTI-R Integra. Can someone give me the lowdown on these Acuras? What **** is an Acura? Why not Honda Integra? Is it like RUF for porsche?

Hehe, nono... not at all... Honda felt that upon introducing their new line of vehicles to the US they needed to make it stand out. Back in the mid 80s when offering cars such as the Legend at the price they were... the felt customers needed something to differentiate between the Legend and the Accord... the Legend was in fact FAR more luxurious than the Accord...
So comes a new name... Acura. Meaning Honda's LUXURY division for its North American Customers.
In bringing this new nameplate they could offer a car nearly identical to the Civic (Integra) without impacting the sales of the Civic too harshly. Due to the Integra was looked at as a Luxury sports car... as to an econobox... Are you catching on to the luxury nameplate yet?
That's ALL it really is... that... and they know they couldn't sell an $80k NSX over here with the nameplate Honda. It's sad isn't it? Simply a sales pitch, that is all.
<CLIFFNOTES> - North Americans are too stupid to buy EXPENSIVE cars if they have the HONDA nameplate on them... so Honda Motor JP created the "ACURA" division in order to sell more "luxurious" Hondas to potential customers here in order to create a more "luxury" image.
NOTE - Toyota and Nissan quickly did the SAME thing.

Yes, that's correct. Also, there were import restrictions limiting the number of cars that any one manufacturer could bring into the US. To get around this, Honda just brought them in under a different name.

Mercury is also right... Honda first derived the idea of "Acura" as a way of Honda Motor Co. to double their U.S. givin import quota back in the late 70's.
