I am trying to buy ARP HEADSTUDS for my b17a1 from http://www.summitracing.com but they only offer headstuds for either b18 or b16 engine. I know the b17 is some weird frankenstein of the two sorta....
So what headstuds do i need the b17a1??
Thanks

The B17 head is exactly the same as the B16 head. The B17 block is exactly the same as the B16 block. The only differences between the two motors are the cams and the rotating assembly. Therefore when you order parts for your B17, any b16 parts will work.

one more question- will an oem headgasket work with an oringed block?</TD></TR></TABLE>
sleeved blocks get o-rings in the top of the sleeve to help with the head gasket seal.
id say check with the company that sleeved your block

heres the issue, i have no idea who sleeved it, i bought the engine built and have no way of contacting the previous owner.
So with that in mind, should an OEM headgasket work with an origned block? Right now it has a copper headgasket, i have no idea how thick it is...

Re: (projectTeG)
You'll have to run the o-rings either way. With that, I have a feeling if you have alot of cylinder pressure, than using an oe gasket probably wouldn't last very long at all. Question, why not use copper gasket? They are stronger anyways.

my engine is 8.5:1CR, and i think its the stock bore (will be able to tell better once i pull the head).
Anyway i actually would like to raise the compression a little is possible. What thickness headgasket do you think i should run to bring the compression up just a bit to like 8.8 or something?

what do you guys think of
SCE Pro Copper Head Gaskets
sold on summitracing.com? I was thinking of getting a b16 .043 compressed one...
Also what is the function of oringed headgaskets? If my block is oringed should i NOT use an oringed headgasket?

Re: (turbotime)
SCE makes excellent gaskets. As for thickness you are just gonna have to measure the one you have.
The function of an o-ring is to make a combustion seal. To prevent the head gasket from blowing out. All copper head gaskets require an o-ring with the exception of the SCE titan ICS gasket. Which you don't want to use.
You have to run o-rings. No head gasket that I am aware of made for hondas comes with o-rings though.

i have found a few copper headgasket that include orings.
Im saying my BLOCK has orings machined into it, so do i need to use a oringed copper headgasket?
Also you say the SCE are good copper headgaskets? How do i measure the thickness of my current gasket? is tehre a special tol?

Re: (turbotime)
Actually the block does not have o-rings machined into it. It has o-ring groves machined into it. You need to supply the o-rings. Which are easy to find. And you said you found a gasket anyways that comes with the o-rings.. So you're in. You can re-use your o-rings too if they aren't all fuckered up. Stainless doesn't compress like copper. I'm under the impression you don't quite understand how o-rings work. You should probably be talking to a shop about doing this for you.

It's called a micrometer. You measure crushed thickness. Meaning you can mic it out right when you pull off your head.

yeah i just wasnt clear on the concepts of orings...
So if i can get a copper head gasket and orings (firerings) built in, that will work?
Im not even sure if its my headgasket thats toast, the head just may be lifting, im gonna try arp studs first i think

Re: (turbotime)
The only problem I can think of having a headgasket that has a built in o-ring, is that what if the o-ring doesn't line up with your block(even though thats probably not gonna happen because there is no room to work with there anyways), or even worse it's set up for an o-ringed head.
