Default Vtec Noise

When I reach the vtec point, there is "almost" always a click noise. Is it normal to have this sometimes?

I didn't think this noise was good. I suppose it may be my vtec solenoid. It is weid though because I never get a code.

No way dude. The solenoid isnt loud enough to be heard over the motor revving at 4400k. Maybe if you were having it dyno'd and you had the hood open and standing right by it.

LOLOLOL

sounds like the timing belt is off a tooth or two.

same thing happened to my buddies H22, made an odddd noise when vtec hit, then he sed **** it and decided to redline it and bent all exhaust valves to hell.

good luck, and check that out.

Ok, so now I am getting 50/50 feedback. I am pretty sure my exhaust valves are not bend because my compression is fine. My car rips, I dyno'd at 325 to the wheels, but this click noise is a weird thing that is pissing me off. I think I will just get another vtec solenoid and see if that fixes the problem. I am also going to call the dealer and see what they say. Any further thoughts???

i guess the only time when there should be a click is when there isnt enough oil, therfore the vtec selonoid activates but there would be no oil to build pressure. Kinda like the vtec selonoid being turned on manually when the car isnt running?
But in this case you say the car is running and pops vtec but makes a clicking noise......strange........

honestly man what do you have done that you are puttin down 325whp and you can still hear a click when vtec hits?? I would think the only thing you would be hearin is your wastegate scream and the turbo spoolin not some click when vtec engages

There is honestly a click. It is actually quite pronounced and annoying. Perhaps I do have piston valve slap, however I just did a compression test and it came out 145 accross the board.

so many people so quick do doubt

if hes pulling 145 compression hes running low compression pistons... that should be really obvious

#2, with my VAFC and slowly going up the RPM range with my window open I sometimes hear a click as well... I hear it going in and coming out but I have to be under 20% thtl crossing 4500

I dont *think* its normal but it might just be because i have 110k miles and the engine isnt happy about life

ok so if hes easing into vtec with his vafc kicking vtec on in the mid 4ks and he has his window down if hes get low compression pistons doesnt that mean hes running forced induction in which case<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by highrolla &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

and mines got over 125k and when vtec hits all i hear is screamin motor - could be a bad solenoid
