Default CV axles on Lowered DAs

For those of you who owned your car for a long time, I just want to know how often do you guys replace your axles?

I make a log on maintenance of my DA since I bought it in 93, and according to my records, drivers side axle is every four years and passenger side is every five years. This is my everyday commuter car.

I understand the whole deal about when lowering your car you put stress on all the suspension components. I just want to hear from other DA owners how often they change them.

Just respond like this: Drivers side= 3 years Passenger side=2.

Lowering a car will not wear out axles.

I lowered my 94 GS-R at 105,000 miles. My original axles lasted till about 165,000 miles at which point I discovered the inner boots were torn, but the axles themselves were still fine. I put in some rebuilt axles and those are still on there now at 240,000 miles.

During that time I've been lowered anywhere from 2 to 3 inches.

I know it's not a DA but it's still the same principle, with nearly identical suspension/axle designs.

What makes you think that the car being lowered is what's making the axle go bad? Axles can go bad for other reasons, too (since they do go bad sometimes on cars with stock suspension).

If you look at a car with stock suspension, the axle shafts angle downward. In most cases on a lowered car the axle shaft is actually closer to being parallel with the ground than it was at stock height (unless it's just stupid low).

Lowering a Honda puts ALOT more stress on your outer tie rods than it does on the axles.

clicking only happens when the outer joint goes bad. If yours clicks when turning you have a bad outer joint, regardless of the boot conditions.

When an inner joint goes bad, you'll get extremely severe vibration when you have the throttle open, like while accelerating. The vibration will go away when you close the throttle.

I had the same problem with my 94 GSR. I have had tein s-techs on my car for the past two years. I had to replace the axles last christmas around this time and was told it was b/c my car was lowered and it was throwing the angles of the cv joints out of wack.

My cv joints just recently started clicking again and they are only 1 year old. Granted they are remanufactured but they should still last more than a year. I checked the boots on the old ones to see if they were ripped or torn or anything and they were fine. If someone can diagnose my problem, please let me know.

Thanks guys!

Most likely just crappy reman's.

I really doubt your CV joints are angled any worse than they are when the car is at stock height.

Maybe so....im gonna have to have them replaced anyways and i think i might go OEM this time to see if original axles make a difference. I also have the list of maintenance done on the car before i bought it and the previous owner did have the axles replaced so maybe they were crappy too and went bad fast. who knows. Thanks for the reply tho!!
