Any tranny experts around these parts? Ive talked to numerous people and I keep getting different answers so if someone with a lot of experience with transmissions could read my situation and give me some ideas i would be forever indebted to you. Kind of a long read so be prepared.

Here we go:

Bought a b18c motor from a member here, put it in my eg, and went to start it. I noticed that we couldnt find ANY gears. We played with the linkage and ended up finding 1,2, & 5. For a while I could never get it in to 3, 4 or R. I went to put the exhaust back on and had it jacked up with a jack. The exhaust was hitting the linkage so i got in the car and decided to try and see how bad it was rubbing. All of a sudden I had 1,2, 3, & 5, but still no 4 or R. Odd, I thought. So i hooked the exhaust up and it fell a little off of the linkage so I tried it again to see what happenes. Now, I was back to 1, 2, & 5 on the up shift, but I could go to 4 then 3 if downshifting from 5(if it matters, I could NOT go 5 to 3 on the downshift, had to go 5 then 4 then 3). I figured it might be a problem with the linkage so i got another linkage from a friend of mine that I knew was good and took it to a shop so they could weld up my exhaust, look at the tranny, and put the linkage on. They put the linkage on and tell me the tranny is prolly fucked altho they did finally get it in reverse after pulling(not pushing, had to do it from the pass seat) the shifter all the way right towards the passenger door. Awesome .

I then take the car out and about for some driving since it hasnt moved in a while. 1 and 2 are fine and all of a sudden I can find 3rd too. Still no 4 or R. That brings me to today. I finally take the car out and drive it 45 minutes to work and back. I notice at times its hard to get into 3(I can put it in third gear only after holding the shifter in the 3rd gear spot and moving it left to right) and other times it goes right into 3rd like nothing is wrong. Also, when I have the car in 4th it appears as if the shifter is shifted right about an inch from where it should be(almost in the spot R would be if it worked) . Also, it seems as if im reaching for 5 and 5 also seems really mushy compared to the other gears. I had a gsr swap before and it didnt sit as far to the right as it does now.

Any ideas? I really dont wanna have someone tear this tranny apart and find nothing wrong and cost me a couple hundred bucks. Some people are saying its the linkage because it goes into gear smooth and i got more gears after we fucked with the linkage. Other people are saying its the tranny because of the odd shifting pattern. Any help is beyond appreciated. Also, if you have any questions feel free to ask. I know its a long read and kinda confusing.

*EDIT*
Just took it for a couple more drives after adjusting my tps and noticed something odd. If you put the car in neutral and just let the shifter sit there and pull straight down, it goes into second, not fourth. Obviously something is bent, but what? Again, TIA for any help.
