Thoughts on the STR501 wheels
Thinking on getting these for my car. Haven't seen them on any other car, just wondering if anyone has had experience with STR?

yeah I know they're replicas of other rims, just dont know the quality. I think they replicate some Enkei rims, I know the RPF10's for sure. That titanium bronze looks sick though

If you ignore the "is" in my reply (not sure how that got in there) and you re-read what I posted, it should make sense.
But for the sake of argument, lets take it apart. You said they're REPLICA wheels. What does that mean to you?
A. They're forged and expensive like the wheels they're replicating?
OR
B. They're cast wheels replicating forged wheels, thus making them cheaper. Not only will they be cheaper, they will be far less quality.

Re: Thoughts on the STR501 wheels
I agree that they'll be a lower quality wheel, but then again Rota has a pretty good rep for being a replicated wheel too. They are an aluminum alloy wheel instead of forged. Not gonna waste my money on CCW's or Works when I only paid 2500 for the car, just doesnt make sense to me especially as a DD. Thanks for the input though, I figured it would be pretty much along the lines of "them being replicas". I'm just trying to see if anyone else has had experience with STR, I can't find anything in the search engine.

Why not suck it up, have a little more patience, save a little more money, and buy a set of real wheels?
If you are on that much of a budget....then maybe consider finding a different hobby that requires less money to be invested into.

ROTA BTW
As long as you're ok with the possibilities of this happening to you, then do it. Will it happen? Probably not. But it's always there, always lurking in the back of your head.

Re: Thoughts on the STR501 wheels
Besides replica wheels being of "unknown" quality (**** sucks....**** always sucks), I never really got the point.
I guess if you're putting together a budget race car whose fenders you don't mind mauling when the wheel breaks, then it makes some sense.....IF the car started out on useless steelies or donuts or cinder blocks.
But the whole concept of "stylin" with replica wheels never made any sense to me.
Excuses like "some people can't afford real wheels" make no sense to me either. Are they going to cut off your arm if you don't buy wheels TODAY? Will you starve to death? Or can you wait for like....a couple weeks? If you're THAT much on a budget, maybe don't buy wheels at all? It's a hobby. So any expenditure is technically a waste. Why waste $$ if you're broke?
What kind of person buys RPF1 replicas? RPF1's are some of the most affordable roll forged wheels out there. They're proven AND they look good AND they're light AND strong....AND they're affordable.
If the real deal seems not worth it....you're not really into cars. At that point, who cares about quality? You will soon enough have moved on to a new hobby...like woodworking...and you'll build things out of wood replicas "cuz its so cheap y0".

Re: Thoughts on the STR501 wheels
haha thats funny, I'm not too good with wood working myself. I understand all of y'alls points, the chance of wheels breaking apart like that is a scary thought. The RPF1's are very nice wheels that do look good, i agree with ya on that, may just go that route. the budget issue is not a problem, I could buy some $1500 dollar wheels, but if its not a show car or if u drive it every day, I just dont see the point, besides getting props from other tuners. I've had my car for 11 years now and will probably keep it for a while longer, just want to keep it clean and driving good. If I'm gonna throw a couple grand in her then it would be in the engine, not the wheels. Anyways, thanks for the input

Re: Thoughts on the STR501 wheels
I love this debate. I personally would never spend the money on Volks again. I had them on a previous honda. Now I do track days with my Itr and either have slipstreams on it or Fnoc01s on it. Ive debated if I would buy Te's again as I think they are neat. Just cant justify it as id want to roll around on them to look good but wouldnt want my race tires on the street. Also most of the time attack type cars run Rotas and they seem to hold up just fine. I also have raced on Rotas for over 5 years with different sets and not had an issue. So id either be worried about beating them up and ruining them or getting stolen. Not worth it IMO.
Ive also seen expensive wheels have issues and break in a racing application.
