Default Temperature gets colder when im driving faster

My car has just starting doing this. If the car is sitting then it will get up to normal operating temperatures but when i drive the temperature will get lower. When driving slowly, like in traffic, it only goes down a little but when im on the highway it can get as low as right above the c on the gauge. It has never done this before and i have had the car for the last 25k miles. Is there something wrong with the radiator or is it something else?

hmm, heres some guesses i could come up with.

1) temp sensor is almost gone or on the fritz
2) thermo is going out, may be getting stuck or somethin..
3) the wire to the gauge is messed up...

other then that, i cant think of another reason.. i mean unless its the thermo, isnt opening and holding cool fluid in the radiator, then it open's up and fluid goes into the block, which is cool/colder.. so it makes the gauge go down to C, or close to

but again, im not exactly sure, im just pissin in the wind here.

bump for some help, any radiator problems suck *** PERIOD!!

Well...when you're moving faster, depending on the temperature outside, you're moving tons of cold air through your radiator. My gsr doesn't do this, but we don't have frigid cold air this time of the year here. The crx did this though..

thermo switched to fail safe because it failed and you're running an open thermo constantly. switch out the thermo.

Well the thermostat is supposed to only open/close at certain temps regardless of the coolant temp. Perhaps he should look into it.

The temperature guage is supposed to stay constant if everything is working properly. My car used to never get but just barely above C. When my radiator sprung a leak, it started going up to the middle when idling, and then back down to C when driving. I replaced both the radiator and the thermostat and now it gets up to just under half-way quickly, and stays there all the time, whether the car is sitting idling or driving on the highway. This is what you want, as the engine will run better and more efficiently this way.

So just replace the thermostat. I got an OEM one from Honda (99-00 Civic Si application) for under $20. You should probably flush and replace the coolant while you're at it.

The Civic/CRX had those giant full rads. I could put mine back into open loop by coasting down hills in the fall/winter.
