Default temperature gauge goes down with hard acceleration

i've been driving my 91 integra..with no real problems. i very rarely get on it since its stock and is just a daily driver. last night i was just crusing along and slowed down to about 40 and down shifted into 2nd and took off up to about 85. i noticed my temperature gauge went almost down to completely cold.

i have no problem with it doing this..its much better than overheating..but i'm really curious as to why and if this is a problem. other than that, there has been no temp problems. no overheating, my fan comes on when it needs to, etc.

Since it it cold out, sometimes when you accelerate like that, you have lots of coolant circulation and its so cold out, it cools it down really fast and then your gauge shows colder. But i goes right back to warm right. This happened to me a couple times. Only when it just got to the the middle(warm) and then i accelerated then it dipped down a little. So its fine.

it was very, very cold last night. single digits.

i got off the throttle and the gauge came right back to operating temp. it didnt dip down a little though, it went down most of the way.

maybe you dont have enough coolant... the coolant sloshes quickly away from the thermostat and it touches a cold metal part... who knows

Agreed 100%. Aftermarket t-stats are notoriuosly bad. Use only genuine Honda.
