synthetic/conventional oil question
So I have a 99' LS with low miles (about 40k) and have used nothing but mobil 1 full synthetic oil since I have been driving it (about 15k). Recently I knew a oil change was coming up and my girlfriend was trying to be nice and get it done for me while she was barrowing my car. So she took to the little lube shop I usually take it to but didn't ask for synthetic when she got it done. So they ended up doing a oil change with a some random 10w30 conventional oil.
So here is my question. I have only driven about 20 miles on it so far, do I go and get another oil change with my usual synthetic oil asap or can I go the regular 3000 miles and then change it out for my usual oil? I know it's not good to switch between the two so I'm wondering if the oil needs to be switched out as soon as possible or if it will be okay for just the oil change.

I would just change it out.
But just so you know, synthetic motor oils can go at least 2-3 times as long on drain interval than conventional oils. Draining and refilling every 3K with synthetic is a HUUGGEEEE waste of money, especially on a mostly stock engine.

dont use synthetic oils in the older cars. leave it to the new new cars. just stick to regular oil. synthetic has all sorts of detergents and additives that your engine doesnt need. i would just change it back to regular. if your really paranoid (i would be on my car) they can do a flush..
my buddy down the street has an ITR and he was told to not use synthetic in the engines, even if it is high performance. regular is fine.

lots of miss information being passed out.
10w30 is fine
conventional oil is fine for up to 3000k miles.
switching from synthetic to conventional oil is fine
i would not bother going in for another oil change. you wont notice any difference other than your wallet is lighter.

I wouldn't really call my car old though. Age wise it might be kinda old but mileage wise it only has 38k which is nothing for a Honda. I replaced the cam end plug not too long ago and when I took the valve cover off the head looked like new still! No sludge at all.

I wouldn't mind using conventional oil though if there is real no added benefit to synthetic other than extended oil changes (which I usually stick to the usual 3-4k anyway due to the filter).

10W-30 is fine for higher temperature ranges. If it gets real cold where you are then I would go with 5W-30. Synthetic lasts longer, does not break down as easily under load and tends to lube the engine better as they can be less viscous than conventional.
You can mix your synthetic oil with conventional oil, but you cannot mix TRUE sythetic oils with anything else.

I agree with most of the above, regular oil is fine, synthetic is an unneeded expense, [unless run for longer periods between changes].
I have been using Pennzoil 10W30 in my 94LS since it was new, I do double up on the oil changes, and engine was BiTroned on my first oil change, [100 kilometers].
The car has been drag raced for two seasons 94-95, autocross 96-04, a 75 shot nitrous kit was added in 96 along with a CAI.
Replaced oil pan with a bigger one, [1 quart] in 97 after a dumb-*** at Acura stripped out the drain plug hole treads.
There are 268,000km on the engine, it still runs strong and does not burn a drop of oil.
Long story short, regular oil is just fine, even if you drive your car hard. 94

ok... we can do this all day but i know what i was told. and please dont mix oil ffs... just loook at the damn book and put the oil in the car thats recommended.
no i didnt call your car old. i meant older. not mileage wise, just year. some engines just werent built to handle synthetic oils. they can break down seals and stuff with the detergents... im sure you have tuner shops in your area that tune street cars, you can ask a professional if you want a real answer... like i said...i know what i was told

Remember that Synthetic oil can hide problems that are present. I have mixed syth blends woth conventional once. No problem. The next oil change, I just made sure it was synthetic again..

Shortly after I bought my car with 89K miles on it (previous owner had always used conventional Castrol GTX 5w-30), I switched to Mobil1 5w-30 full synthetic. I used it for probably 15K-20K miles or so, and NEVER had a problem. Later when I was unable to get the Mobil1 for the same price I had before, I switched to Valvoline MaxLife conventional 5w-30 year-round, and it's been fine using that for the past 150K miles or so, changing every 3K miles.
So yeah, my car had pretty high mileage when I was using synthetic oil, but I never had any oil leaking or burning problems whatsoever.
