Default SUSPENSION?????

Sup-
I'm lookin for some suspension, pref. coilovers. I want ajustable height, and 2 leves of stiffness cuz i want to do autocross but i really dont wanna be bouncing around like a goofball all the rest of the time. I'm lookin at some Tein SS, but theyre close to a billion dollars once you get all the ****, camberkit/mounts/coilovers. any ideas to save me some $$$$$$$$$$$$$$? not set on brand or anything.
Thanks guys

I have Konis yellows, skunk2 coilovers, and an ingalls camber kit. The Konis with the skunk2's almost add up to about the same price as the Tein's. In the long run, your still going to be paying just about the same amount. If I were you, I would either get the Teins, or some Koni yellows with GC's. If you don't need your car to be that height adjustable, than go with Konis with either H&R's or Neuspeed's.

KYB 4 ways are an excellent budget shock. I'd say forget the height adjustability. They're more trouble then they're worth.

well, the only reason i wanted the height ajustability is because i dont know if or when i'm going to get rims, and i'd probably have to go lower with rims because i refuse to put suspension on my car that sucks the tires up into the fenders because i think that looks terrible and its stuff that idiot civic drivers do. i mean, i dont need 80 inches of movement, but a little would be nice, but yes it is a lot of trouble to raise or lower my car even with that so i probably wouldn't do it that often, but i also dont know exactly what height looks the best.
PLUS my friend (whos getting me these teins for a 15% discount) just told me i dont need to get the mounts that i thouht i did, and they added quite a bit. Something about pillow ball mounts i think, you guys know about those? i'd never heard of them. anyway, sorry this was so long, i get excited when i talk about cars
oh, one more question, is it better to get a spring/shock setup(like the tein ss) or get random shocks and put them with random springs? or is their a diff?

You don't have to get pillow ball mounts, you can just use the pieces from the stock suspension.

A lot of the height adjustability issue could be solved by letting us know what size/offset wheel you will be going with, and what size tire.

well actually, i hadn't planned that far in advance, what do you recomend? I was thinking probably 17X7's, that would be ideal. Also, i'd like it if my rims went out almost to the edge of my fender because i HATE the look of having the wheels set back and sucked up into the fender, so stupid- definitely a civic thing. but yea, i dont know **** about offsets or anything except that tegs are supposed to have 40mm. and as for tires, christ, i have NO idea. hahaha, sorry, i'm open to suggestions even though i wont be getting rims until the summer after this one comming up, money issues+college=not a lot left for my baby(car...)

I have to recommend that you do some research and figure out exactly what you want, and what you can afford. Don't invest in suspension until you have some idea of what you'll be running.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by BlueGravity &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> I was thinking probably 17X7's, that would be ideal.</TD></TR></TABLE>

The general opinion surrounding 17 inch wheels is that they are too big and too heavy to be considered a performance mod. By going with 17's, not only are you adding rotational mass, but you're adding it further away from the center which makes it harder for the engine to turn. It will also negatively affect you drive ratio, which will hurt acceleration. I would look at a wide 15 or 16 inch wheel with about a 45mm offset, unless of course you're in this for the bling.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by BlueGravity &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">so stupid- definitely a civic thing.</TD></TR></TABLE>

And why all the hate for Civic's?

haha, i'm definitely not in it just for the bling, but i'd really like it if it was visually pleasing. But yea, i definitely dont want to hurt my acceleration etc. i would be cool with a 16 inch, but 15 is only one bigger than stock and stock are REALLY little. also isn't it hard to find 15/16inch thats wide? Although, come to think of it, my friend has civic si wheels on his teg and it looks good, i believe those are 15's maybe. but they are set in his car and i think it looks shitty just becuase of that. Know any way around that?

and i hate civics because A) they get compared w/ tegs, and aside from an SI tegs are faster (or at least i've never even come close to getting beat by a civic) but if you comare si, you have to compare to the gsr and gsr would kill an si. besides, all the people i iknow who drive civics(or have met who drive them) are gay. now, i know my car isn't the fastest thing out there, but i dont claim it is. besides, it pisses me off when people put a muffler on their car and think its got 200 more hp. thats my lil rant, thanks for listening. hahaha

a few companies make a 15x7 wheel, advan makes a work knockoff that is 15x7, a 16 inch wheel is usually 16x6.5, so that should be plenty enough.

You may want to look at some of the companies known for making high quality knock-offs of more expensive wheels, like Rota. Stock Si wheels are 15x6 and the widest tire recommended to be mounted on them is a 205/50/15. A 16x7 can handle one 215 wide, or possible 225 for a track application.

I'd hate to see you in the same room with some of my friends with Civics, you'd be hung within the first hour. My partner has an ITB setup on his B16 powered Civic and can eat my ITR alive...on 3 cylinders.

16X6.5 would be fine, of the companies who make them, what are the best? i looked around for a while but its hard to find sites that give you the weight.

as for the civics, i'd hate to see one of them in a room w/ my teg friends, it goes both ways. I'm not saying all civics are bad, i mean a hatch w/ a diff engine, fast as ****. I was just saying of the drivers who i've met, and the civics i've raced, theyre all shitty cars/drivers. and it makes it worse that they think their car is fast. but who cares? those are just my personal experiences i'm sure you have diff ones so yuo dont have the same views as me.

I believe someone mentioned Advan earlier. Personally, I'm in love with the Spoon wheels.

heres my setup: 16x7 volk ce28n's 44mm offset. good look to it
JIC FLT-A2's set on softest setting (1) front and backad only bout .5" t 1" drop. ride is a lil tight but bearable and not bouncy. i can only imagine what its like on the stiffest (15) setting and lowered @ the track.

whoa thats clean d00d nice job..

I am running Koni Yellows, Skunk2's, Skunk2 camber kit, Ingalls rear.. i payed a lot for it all, but i like it better ove rthe TEIN SS b/c i can adjust my dampening without getting underneath the car b/c Koni offers it on top of the rod. Konis dont rust like the SS and the skunk2 spring rate is around teh same as the SS. I got lucky with my camber kit b/c my ball joints are silent and perfect shape and i am slammed and i dont hit the shock towers. overall i love the ride its stiff and responsive with flexibility and adjustablity.

if i had a million dollars i would opt for some Moton dampers and custom GC's but i dont,or some ZEALs or Ohlins like KENDAL has (drool) or JICS.. i think TEIN's are not what they are cracked up to be for the money compared to other setups out there!

I read some reviews for the yellows and said that the paint just rubs off, i'm assuming the put something else on to keep it from rusting, am i correct? also, the more i hear about those shocks the more i want them, i haven't hear anything bad baout them except for the paint issue. i'll have to look into those more.

car looks really good, but do you see how the wheels are not as wide as the fenders? Not that your car looks bad, but i'm trying to steer away from that. What makes it look like that? offset? width of wheel/tire?

negative camber... why would camber make the wheels extend that extra inch+? camber should only affect the angle of the wheel(straight up and down, or angled...) am i incorrect?
