Yeah, my car is single handlely causing global warming. I'm a gross polluter. I had feeling with my car sometimes smelling like fumes when I drive. I decided to take it in just out of curiosity (and that I needed it registered).

Failed the visual on these parts:

All vacuum lines and sensors disconnected, and off timing. Was your car previously owned for racing purposes or owned by a quick fix mechanic? lol... I would get a diagram for OEM vacuum line locations. Wrong timing could be making the fuel not burn fully and releasing high amounts of hydro carbons, and also check to see if the cat is gutted or non existent . Also are you using the OEM programing or a tuned ECU? The wrong programing can cause too much fuel to be used for your application.

The car was owned by some knuckle head. I got the car for cheap because the tranny was shot. I ended up getting that taken care of just recently so I decided to get it smogged.

I gave it a pretty good tune up as well: new o2 sensor, pcv valve, distributor cap & rotor, thermostat, and spark plugs.

As far as the rest, I have no clue. I can't tell if the cat is gutted and have no clue about the ECU.

A prior owner dropped in a 94+ engine so I'm not sure if the lines are all connected or if something's missing.

from 92 til 95, they used the same OBD I B18A1. There shouldn't have been a big change with the vacuum line setup.

Should I start with getting my timing adjusted? I have no clue how to do that so I'll have to take it to a shop. I'm trying to get all of this taken care of as soon as possible. But I'm on a budget too, unfortunately.

I got my timing done for 15$ and it takes like 20 min max.
I was sitting at 20 for my CRX (factory is 18) and knocked it down to 16 and started to see a decent change in my NOx but not too much to even wanting to pay the 15$ but its worth the shot.

I would look at getting a new CAT but the only problem is that it will cost you becasuse the new CA laws(if you live in CA) state that all CATS sold and used need to be tested to a higher level of emission standards.

OR do what im doing and register the car in an area where they dont care about NOx

what difference dos it make from stock cat to magnaflow do you have a pic of the different?

A magnaflow cat is higher flowing but meets the 50 state emmisions requirements.
