Replacing the igniter in a distributer(obd1).
looking to get my old OEM distributer back on my car as the cheap replacement keeps failing. The problem with my OEM one is the tach goes crazy(bad igniter right ?) when it's in, just wondering CAN it be replaced by simply plug n play style or do I need to cut n splice ?. Honda want's 300$ ! for it so that's no happening anyone have a good brand they can recommend ?. I'm guessing the thing I've circled is it ?

Again your local auto parts store has aftermarket ones, and as mentioned, easy to install, [pretty much plug and play.
I did mine on the side of the road at night, with only a Philips screw driver. 94

Sometimes the screws seem welded in with some unidentified space metal. That can make it a pain, but it really is plug and play.

Ok will go to part source tomorrow and see what they have, I've had the distributer apart before and yes those screws were scary to undo lol.

Just as a reminder. Those ignitors are supposed to be glued to a heatsink if they didnt come with one, you must rip the old one off. They usually come with a packet of thermal glue to attach it. After that they can screw back onto the distributor. Theyll burn out if you dont

The Honda ICM's from the late 80's and 90's are pretty much all interchangeable. The only real variance you'll find is the heat sinks, which can be swapped around to suit your needs. Just go to a junkyard and grab a few. One is bound to be in good working condition. I'd consider it a pocket item if you are buying other larger things.
