radio code will not work

radio code will not work
I have a 97 integra, the battery was disconnected and it asked for the code. I pulled out the radio to get the serial (FA031453) and went to both a Honda and Acura dealer to get the code. They give me the code but it DOES NOT WORK. I am very confused at this point.
Does anyone know why the correct radio code would not take?

First, call them back and state you were given a code for your radio and it doesn't work. Worst case scenario, you will have to go back.
It could be as simple as the whomever gave you to code could have had a dyslexic moment and accidentally swapped two numbers. I don't know.

Try this:
With key in the "ON" position:
1. Turn radio on.
2. Press and hold the "1 and 6" "preset station button on radio.
3. Radio serial# should show on display.
Check to see if the serial number on the display matched the one on the back of the radio.
You may also want to check for a sticker placed in one of the following places:
- Ash tray (inside or underneath)
- Grove box (outside left panel when the glove box is fully open)
This sticker should have your radio serial number printed on it.

I tried this, but since the radio is expecting a code, when I press the 1&6, it thinks I am entering a code. Do I need to hit some other button first?

No luck with these either, unfortunately.
Any other ideas on how to get the serial number without pulling the radio?
Thanks for the help...

Try holding 1 and 6, then turning the radio on. But i heard this only works on newer models (2000+). Anyone know if theres a similar process for older integras?
