Quiet Vtec engagement on JDM b16?
I just swapped a JDM low mileage B16A into my Integra, so that I can complete my LS/VTEC build. I had problems with it not engaging at first, but that is fixed now. I had the wrong wire running to the solenoid. But now, I get a check engine light 20 when I take it past 8000 and Vtec disengages.
When Vtec engages though, it's very quiet and can hardly notice it. I wanted to know if this was the way it was since I've never run a B16 before. My friends tell me it should be more noticeable.
Any ideas or remarks?

Re: (97tegGS)
I have intake and cat back. Not loud at all. Really need to pay attention to notice it engages. I guess I rode in a GSR that was that way too.
I think the motor is pretty good. Runs great and low miles. Plus it JDM and has never been disassembled.

That's what I was thinking. I don't know why it doesn't engage hard. I can hardly tell that it's there. Don't know.

Did u put a JDM B16A longblock or complete swap...? If it was just a longblock it could've been an automatic B16A which had weaker cams...

I'm running a socketed P28 w/Skunk2 chip. Oil level is good and I double checked the wiring.
I didn't know about the automatic thing though. Good possibility that it could've bee auto since it's just the longblock. Any way to check that?

Where would an auto B16 come from?
And my impression was a smooth crossover indicates a healthy motor and the perfect engagement point.

When u installed the tranny, did u have to install a five speed flywheel, or did it already have one...?

I have owned numerous JDM hondas with B-series engines and they were all dead of themsleves when the first arrived in my country...some took a few days to liven up, others took a few weeks. The engine has been laying for god knows how long and it basically needs to be run in again, so give it time, it should come round after a short break in period

2 years ago when i sat in a Sir eg sedan (I live in New Zealand, its was my friends car), yeap with just an airfilter and straight through exhaust with no cat, at 5700 you could hear it scream. it redlined at 8.3 or sumthin up there.

Re: (slowsinglecam)
vtec crossover depends on ecu...should be 5200rpms if its stock, but you said a skunk chip so who knows...but a B16s vtec crossover should be very well heard. like others said it could be an auto

i have a 94 civic coupe ex/si with jdm b16a swap with full dc headers and exhaust too the back and a cold air intake and a socketed/chipped p28 ecu powering it and my vtec kicks in at 4200 rpm and it is loud and powerful very noticable if your is quiet check oil pressure and vtec sylenoid also try first throw 1 bottle of octane boost and a bottle of vavoline injector cleaner this fixed a prob i had
