Putting A Clutch in My '95 GS-R
Hey guys.
I'm putting a new clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, and pilot bearing in my GS-R. While I have the transmission out, I want to change the fluid in it. However, I have a few questions:
1.) I have the internet version of the 1994 Integra Service Manual I'm sure most of you have ran across on the net at least once by now. It reads that I need 2.3 quarts of API Service Grade SF or SG Transmission fluid in 10w-30 or 10w-40. However, I had never heard of transmission fluid labeled in weights like motor or gear oil, and neither had the guy at Napa when I tried to go get my fluid. Where do I get 10w-30 or 10w-40 TRANSMISSION fluid? Can I just use Dexron automatic trans fluid? I'm a technician at a Ford dealership and our manual transmission take Mercon 5 just like the automatic transmissions.
2.) Are the differential housing and transmission housing two separately sealed units? I.E.- do they take two different types of fluid? I looked all the way through the General Specificiations and Maintanence sections as well as the entire transmission section of the aforementioned manual, and was unable to find a fluid type and amount to fill the differential assembly with.
Thanks in advance for all answers.

would not advice on using Dextron atf, or any atf in a manual tranny. (really, ford's use atf fluid in there manual trans?)
the 10-30w is basically regular motor oil. GM syncromesh with additive have been known to work well. if all else, just go to honda and buy two bottles of honda mtf.

Thanks for the quick responses. Sorry for the dumb questions. So the 2.3qts I'm going to pour in the VSS hole will cover both the Transmission and Differential?

Re: Putting A Clutch in My '95 GS-R
If I had read that manual a little closer I could have saved the bandwidth... the damn drain AND fill plugs are both on the differential part of the case, anyways.
A side note: This was the first time I had done this, and I didn't know how the slave cylinder push rod contacted the clutch release fork, so I disconnected the line at the slave cylinder and pulled the trans with it still connected. Bleeding the system has been a biznatch, and I still don't have it right (hardly any pedal). Clutch seems to be engaging and disengaging okay. I just don't like the pedal. Looks like my lunch break is booked up AGAIN!!!
Thanks again for all of the help!
$5 and change at the Acura dealership I went to, but I get a discount if I tell them it's for our dealership. Three quarts ended up at $17 and change after tax. Not bad...

I second the Honda MTF recommendation. Also, don't worry about measuring -- you just fill it till it leaks out the fill hole. Just make sure you keep the MTF off of rubber parts such as axle boots -- it weakens the rubber VERY quickly and can eat through it completely if you leave it be.
