So ive been over filling my gas tank due to my long commute since i got this car (2000 LS 5sp 90k) without a problem but now ive got one. Im getting code P1457 for evaporative emission control system leak. All my research says its a vac line or the vent or purge solenoids leaking or having failed. Or there is a crack in the charcoal canister. Im told this code has to do with the canister side and not the gas tank side so im curious if the over filling of my tank has anything to do with this. I tested both the vent and purge solenoids and the both click when given power. I shook he canister and it dosnt sound full of fuel or anything so i dont think ive flooded it from over filling. I guess my main question is if i should be looking at anything on the gas tank side that could cause a p1457 or if it is definitely on the canister side.

Also how does the ecu determine the charcoal canister is leaking? what sensor is telling it this?
