Default oil pan gasket leak ?

Is it normal for the oil pan to have what seems like a leak all around it where the gasket is?? Could i be losing oil this way? I am not leaking any oil on the ground but am wondering if this is a problem?

my car never had an oil leak, until i started to let the mechanic change my oil.

no i have a cam seal leak, oil pan gasket leak. my car is just messy.

my driveway use to be clean.

no i have oil drips all over my driveway, which i have to clean out every weekend with simple green, cuz it makes my rich neigbors mad.

u are ruining the value of our home. stop maintaining your car in the drive way, go to a mechanic. etc. etc........

yes, and ur car could also be burning oil, how much mileage?

currenlty, my cam seal is leaking, which is causing me to loose a bunca oil. almost 1 qt. every 3000 miles.

ok.. i have 238,800 miles on my stock 92 gsr. i am not loosing any oil due to this leak. it just builds up around there, but nothing is ever on the ground. i ONLY loose oil when use VTEC. other than that.. i dont really burn oil.. i changed my VTEC solenoid gasket and my cam seals are fine..

so other than VTEC burning oil, my car is good except for the oil pan.

I just got mine repaired..oil leaking from valve cover and oil pan gasket..and got a bunch of other seals done.

so much cheaper to buy the parts seperately.

I got them at http://www.rockauto.com

awesome thanks man. I put a quart of oil in today and seems to be running a lot better. I am going to monitor it very closely. I think the issue of readings on the dipstick was due to insufficiant amount of oil put in when i had my oil changed. I have learned never to trust anyone with my car.

<---- replacing my oil pan gasket saturday (my day off) at my work, god its great to have access to parts at cost, lifts, alignment machines, and every tool i could ever need to use!

Anyways, if you guys want a how-to (i dont know if there already is one), I could take some pics... it should only take about an hour (prob less with a lift and air tools).

Check your oil filter... I swap my oil pan gasket three times back to back thinking it was the oil pan... Then I realize it was my oil filter leaking on to the oil pan flange area... and eventually spread itself around... Sux... nowadays, I still see some oil residue collecting under my oil filter... don't know why.. I always lub up the filter gasket before i install it and wip the gasket surface.

It could possible be the primary reason that your loosing oil unless you have other factors that contribute to it.

try cleaning or degreasen the bottom of your car so you can see where the leak if coming from. ill be easier then to buying all these gaskets guessing where the leak is coming from ..

i had almost the same problem...everytime i hit vtec, looking in my rear view all i would see was white smoke, not to mention the smell of burning oil in the car... i found the leak and it was my oil pan gasket... it was an easy fix and it helped out. i had no more smoke and now im saving on the expense of buying oil.

I've had the same problem, but much worse for a while now. I have had to replace the oil pan gasket once already because of boost pressures, which a catch can will help. Perhaps a catch can could help you too, but I just think your gasket is just wearing away slowly for whatever reason and there's no need to replace it yet unless it's really a problem to you.
