I bought the Castrol engine oil and K&N oil filter when I did the oil change couple months ago, as i calculated today, it already ran 3300 miles ever since I changed it. couple of my friends said the oil doesn't need to be changed every 3000 miles if my car use that kind of oil (about $3.00/qt), I only need to do it every 5000 miles. is it true? cuz i feel weird for not changing it every 3000 miles... just wondering!!

Depends how hard you drive. If you drive agressive change it every 3k.

I change mine every 3000 miles with Mobil 1. If you love your car, why not change it often??? But if you didn't drive it hard, then that will be fine.

its good to do it often, if you do any events then do one before one and after. if you drive on the street, SANELY, 3-5K should be fine.

By the way, Honda OEM oil filters are great and cheaper than K&N.

Act as if its brushing your teeth. You do that every day right (in most cases), why not give your car its maintenance treatment. Whether I drive hard or soft, it gets changed @ 3000. It is ok to go over 3000 but your motor loves to have fresh oil, it'll last longer. Its easy to do and keeps your motor in good condition. I think in the owners manual it says like every 7000 miles I think, and thats on fossil oil. I think thats kinda extreme being my synthetic is usually black as shi* at 3000 miles.

I change it every 3K even if it was all highway miles. Fresh oil is always a good thing.

i agree with 3-5k miles....i also use mobil 1 and oem filters.

just make a habbit of checking your oil level every tank of gas.

I change oil every 3K miles. It's Mobil1... A buddy of mine has 93 EG DX with 2002K miles & inside the motor is SPARKLING CLEAN!!! He ALWAYS used Mibil1 & he always changed it every 3K.
I also have seen motors with 60K miles black/brown with gunk inside. It's your call. The dirtier the oil the more you wear the engine.

Black/brown gunk sounds like sludge from dino oil, this is not a problem with synthetic.

Quality synthetics should last much longer than dino, I change my oil every 5 - 7k depending on how it is looking (I keep a close eye on it after 5k, check at every gas refill). When it starts to get dirty I do a change.

Amsoil or Redline only for me, after 5-7k miles it comes out much cleaner than mobil one synth after 3k.

does anyone here change the tranny fluid by themselves too? how often should we change it? 10000miles or 15000 miles??

I use Mobil 1 oil and for filters I use either Mobil 1, Purolator Pure One, Bosch, STP or if the dealer has parts counter coupons I'll get a Honda filter... I change my oil every 3K even though a lot of the miles are highway miles... I drive my car pretty hard but even if I didn't I'd still change it at 3K.. an oil change only takes me about 20 minutes (incl the time to raise the car/drain the oil) so its no biggie to me)... its good for my car and since I'm doing it myself it doesn't cost all that much.. like $20 every 3K to protect my motor isn't bad...

tranny fluid I usually change every year.. then again I drive hard and I drive a lot... 15K sounds good... some people wait until 30K.. I don't...

Your probably buying the synthetic stuff, those are meant to be changed every 5k, if not you should change it every 3k.
