noise in engine bay when idling around 3200rpm?
i have a 96 integra gsr. everytime i rev the engine up to 3200 rpm there is a loud raddling noise coming from the engine bay. a tech told me to change either the catilac converter or check some of your heat shieds. so i bought a new cat converter then removed all my heat shields. but it still is making the same noise. i have no idea at this point what it is, so any feedback would help.
thx

damn the exact same thing happend to me with my 96 gsr. everytime i revved it around 3200 it would make a weird noise. well i got a header and exhaust and it doesnt do it anymore. not exactly sure what it was but all i care about is that it doesnt do it anymore

how old is the exhaust??
its more than likely a loose baffle in either your resonator or muffler........ my dc sports is doing the same thing, welded up a piece of pipe and eliminated the resonator and it was gone. couple hundred miles later it came back and was my muffler so its new exhaust time for me.... rsr exmag on the way!

Re: (slooogsr)
yea i dont think that it is the muffler of resonator. it sounds like it is coming from under the hood. i would just start replacing parts like the header but i am a little strapped down since i just got it. i dont know what it is it kinda sounds like it is coming from the header but who knows.
thx for the replies.

This is most likely a heatshield. Get under your car and check out the heatshield on the "b pipe" (someone correct me if I'm calling it by the wrong name).
The heatshields are known to break and rattle like hell around 3k rpms.

yea when i replaced my cat converter i took the heat shields completely off and it still makes the noise. it also only does it from about 3200 to 3500 rpm. any where after or before that it sounds fine.

yeah mine sounded like it was coming from under the hood so i took every heat shield off including the ones on the stock header and it still made the noise. like i said i just replaced the header and exhaust so now the noise is gone

The A-pipe (from manifold to cat) is actually a pipe-inside-a-pipe. The inner one warps or comes loose & buzzes against the outer one. This usually provides a good excuse to buy a header...
