Default New parts (ITR cams, obx r header, test pipe) impressions inside

So, mods on the car prior to this were an AEM CAI, custom 2.25" exhaust with a hayame muffler, and the intake and exhaust valve seats were opened up to the very edge of the valves, almost .5mm increase in diameter.

Alright, after dealing with a great seller, Padawan, and waiting for Paypal to do its thing, I came into the acquisition of some 98 spec ITR cams. Now, I know they're not 00+ ITR cams or CTR cams, but you know what? I don't care, they made a huge ... well, noticeable difference. So, here's how it went.

Marked the sprokets and the timing belt so that I could get everything back together. Then, I took out the gsr cams, lubed up (with included assembly grease from Padawan) and put the ITR cams in by aligning the marks on teh timing belt and sprokets, then did a valve adjustment. After a 20 minute break-in, I went for a test run.

I had everything stock at first, then used the all-mighty butt dyno to "tune" the vtec x-over. I ended up with 5300 l-h and 5000 h-l, no fuel enrichment. So, with these settings, when VTEC engaged, it was hella loud, both from the intake and the exhaust. Raced a gsr with intake, header, hf cat, exhaust, cf hood, 17" wheels, nitto neogens, and "other light-weight stuff". I was right there with him from 20-60 mph (45 speed limit). I'd say it was a good investment, as it feels as if there is more power all across the rev range. About a week later, I stopped noticing teh extra power.

OBX R header. Now, I don't want to hear "oh man, that header is ****, why didn't you get a comptech or a jun or hytech header?" Because I don't have that much money. So there, no money = deal with what you got. Anyways, the installation was easy, the welds looked nice, and the stainless steel looked cherry.

Test pipe. This kinda sucked since I needed to fab up some flanges and cut and weld the exhaust to make everything fit. Afterwards, I went for a test run, and well, it was loud and obnoxious, but hey, it worked Anywho, besides the extra noise, the surge at VTEC was back (i need to fiddle with the x-over again) and the car seemed to pull harder, closer to redline. Seems like a good power investment, bad for the environment. I'll be putting the stock cat back on, and put the test pipe on for race days.

Cliffs notes: ITR cams are a mild, but effective and cheaper modification for the engine, great bang for the buck. The OBX R header is a good piece for the money, but we'll see in the long run. The header with a test pipe and a 2.25" exhaust is freaking loud, but it seems to pull a lot harder to redline. All in all, I believe these modifications were a good investment.
