Default Never clean ur headlights with nail polisher remover! HELP!

So, here i am, taking off my headlights to clean them. I gather all the cleaners i need, nail polish remover, metal polish, paint cleaner, wax, glass cleaner. So I sprayed the nail polish remover on...wipe...I see all the yellow gunk come off onto the cloth. Then the npr dissolved some of the plastic. Now i have this thick ***-like layer that isn't residue and can't be wiped off. Now i have to buy whole new headlights. Any solutions?

Conclusion: At least, I'm going to end up with SHINY and CLEAN headlights eventually

Nail polish remover is pretty much the same thing as paint remover- most of them are not safe for plastics, which you obviously found out the hard way. How bad is the damage? Does the plastic look all melted? Maybe you might be able to save it by wetsanding... otherwise, what year Integra do you have? I'm going to have a set of 94-97 headlights for sale in about a week

i think he got it mixed up with rubbing alcohol....many people use rubbing alcohol to clean their headlights...since rubbing alcohol can be used to remove nail color/polisher whatever, he thought it'll be the same to use acetone or nail polish remover....well atleast thats what i think...

I would try some high grit compound to polish it a bit.

someone at the garage did this on my high beam lamp and i almost ripped him a new butthole. We used compound to undo the process. Depending on how deep the nailpolish remover went, the compound should fix most of it..

Nail polish remover is mostly just Acetone. It's used as a solvent for fiberglass resin and various other materials. I have no real advice on how to reverse the damage, a chemical change has taken place on the surface plastic.
