my gsr sounds like a WRX.. What happend?
So my 97 GS-R is sounding like a wrx.
Here are my mods(Although irrelevant but i'm sure someone will ask):
Comptech intake
Dc sports 4-1 header
Feel's Exhaust.
i did a compression check and here's what i got:
Cylinder one being the one farthest from the Distributor:
Cylinder 1: 210 psi
Cylinder 2: 180 psi
Cylinder 3: 0 psi(not a typo it is was at 0)
Cylinder 4: 210 psi.
I'm betting a bent valve.
anyone know of any other tests i should do before pulling the head off?

haha ok. ~__~! thanks for stating obvious but obviously you were being a sarcastic. i think i'll jsut pullt he head out. i was hoping there was a way to distinguish between a bent valve and piston ring blow by

i mis shifted awhile ago, but it was running fine with no CEL and it still has no CEL light. I even ran it at CMI on march 31-april 1st. and drove ti all the way back to san jose, than drove ti for another 1 or so before it started sounding liek a suby. i'm looking for a motor to swap in and drive before i pull this one apart. I'm pretty sure ti's a bent valve. not to mention that it was burning a quart oil every day.

I dont see a point, cant' do a leakdown if the cylinder doesn't have compression in the first place.

burn! but he is right.
I'll pull the motor prob this weekend and take some pictures. See what got deformed in there.

A leakdown can tell you what is damaged. Depending on where it's leaking from, you can get a good idea as to where to start.
Intake = intake valves, exhaust = exhaust valves, coolant overflow/radiator = head gasket, oil cap = rings or something bad etc. etc...

what i was saying was that the cylinder 3 holds no compression whatsoever.(the needle doesn't even budge when i crank.) so, doing the leakdown on cylinder three would be impossible.
I'm using these directions. if your thinking my idea of a leakdown is retarded.

The point of the leakdown is to find out where it's leaking. We already know it's leaking (bad) because you have 0 compression, but where is it leaking from?
The post above says valves for sure. If thats the case, the compressed air will shoot out of your exhaust or intake, even with the cylinder at TDC and the valves are (supposed to be) closed...
If it's your valves, then there's no reason to pull the block...yet.

This is probably correct, as the blown HG would give you some compression, and you would (should) know if you bent a rod (knock, knock, knock) or threw a piston through the girdle.
I just wanted to make sure that people didn't think this: "I cant' do a leakdown if the cylinder doesn't have compression in the first place." You're going to have 90-100% leak, but you will know where it's leaking from.
Pull the valve cover and take a look at those rockers.

Re: (thewrai6th)
well the heads off for awhile now, i reinstalled a ported race head some guy ran 12's with in a EG. it'll be up and running soon, and as for the bent valve...a 1/4 or the valve was missing from one fo the exhaust valves on cylinder three..=*( but thanks for the help guys. let me know if you want pictures because this is the first time i've ever seen something like this.

i remember when my car sounded like a WRX. sounds pretty bad azz...to bad it doesn't want to pull untill i go above 4-5 RPM. the problem with mines was that the mechanice jackd up my valve adjustment.
