My gas mileage is HORRIBLE. WTF gives?
So I just got my integra 95 auto like a month or so ago and the gas mileage sucks bad.
Intake, dc sports header, apex ws exhaust and some gas saver crap. Car runs great, minus a little exhaust leak.
I drive it like a bitch, I coast in neutral as much as possible to stop. On my 17mile trip to work, I have coasted as much as 7 miles in neutral.
Got the car, and it got 22mpg. Did a tune up, got 23mpg, and now after coasting and still driving like grandma I get 24mpg.
Talked to my friend with his modded gsr and he beats the snot out of it and he gets 27mpg. Just threw on some new light weight rims and new tires, new front brakes and still gets garbage gas mileage.
After this tank the gas saver thingy is coming out, but seriously if everyone else averages 30mpg driving normal or beating on it and I drive like a bitch why is mine so crappy?

Tune-up and ECU... also put in a new O2 sensor. However that probably won't get you to 30 mpg. It netted me a 3-4 mpg increase on average, though. But I was already getting 32+ on the highway and I got up over 37 mpg on the highway shortly after installing the new O2.

I have a new fuel filter awaiting install here. o2 sensor in the works as soon as I can gather up the funds. And what will resetting my ecu do?
Also is there a specific way to or should I just unplug it for an few minutes?

Disconnect your negative battery terminal. Put that new filter in that bish. I'm assuming when you say tune-up you did the whole plugs, wires, valve adjustment thing... Any CEL's? That'll put your gas mileage to **** in a hurry

I did plugs, cap and rotor. No wires yet and what valve adjustment? No cel's.
What's so hard about the new fuel filter? Also is there a shradder valve on this car to release the fuel pressure or just disconnect it?
How long do you leave the battery disconnected?

Disconnect negative battery for about 5 minutes or longer.
Reconnect the battery and start the car up without touching the throttle or adjusting anything.
Let it idle for 10 - 15 minutes.
Turn off car.
Putting in a new 02 sensor also netted me an extra 2-4 mpg in the city.

might want to run some chevron techron injector cleaner...also what kind of gas are you running in it? oct and from what location?
i usually drive 300-350 on a tank before i fill up (9-10 gallons usually) and my light doesn't even come on yet..and that's with me gassing her a good bit...and i need to change my air filter/oil/plugs etc...
but i have noticed if you gas up at cheap places you get cheap gas mileage...i just use chevron, exxon, texaco (sp), and sometime shell...and i notice my car runs better and i get better mileage

Incorrect on both accounts. Helm's manual for OBD1 Integras lists the ECU reset procedure, which involves pulling the EFI fuse for something like 30 seconds, and that's it. No need to let it idle, stop, disconnect battery, restart and let idle or all that mess.
You should reset your ECU after replacing any sensor or other electronic part on the engine, like the O2 sensor. I have never reset the ECU for anything like fuel filters or valve adjustments. That's just not necessary.

everyone has that friend that claims they get 50mpg and put down 40,000whp
have u put into the equation the weights of your cars with drivers and whatever else thats in the car?
if you're getting around 23mpg i wouldnt complain. that sounds about normal for an automatic integra.

Where is the exhaust leak? If it is before the O2 sensor, that can be a major factor in your poor gas mileage.

way to help the guy with his problem - he already knows his mileage is down, yet you post your 35mpg figure.
lemme guess, you dont have ac or ps either. and you live in an area with no hills?

Generally, no.
If it really doesn't run right after you do replace it, consider trying it anyway.

Now that you mention it. I have a minor exhaust leak between my exhaust manifold and block. 1 stud broke off on the far left of the manifold and I get exhaust carbon build up on my block in the engine code area. I bet that is why my gas mileage sucks. O2 sensor isnt getting all the data my ECU needs. I'm going to fix that problem now.
Thanks for asking the right question!

awesome, it should help a lot.
some cars straight up stop running with minor exhaust leaks before the 02 sensors

nahh, I had the same stud broken for over 5 years and some of my highest MPG figures happened while it was still broken. I finally got to replace the stud back on Memorial Day weekend when I had my engine pulled out for the first time. I never had room to drill it out before.
So yeah, that stud being broken doesn't make that much of a difference on MPG. I didn't really see any change after replacing it.
