Is my axle fubar?
Another chapter in the P-I-T-A engine swap... I wrote up a post yesterday about whether you have to take the axles off the hub to pull the tranny... We got the pass. side out w/o a problem. The driver's side however is a different story. I know that you have to separate the axle from the half shaft in order to pull the tranny. Well, this is my first time at it and my friend helping me has done 4 swaps or so. While he was banging on the axle at the halfshat, I was pulling up on the front suspension assembly to try and take some weight off. I noticed that the axle started coming towards me, but not in a good way. Apparently it started to pull itself apart. I noticed this b/c part of the shaft where the CV boot covered was now exposed. I thought that the boot might have slipped, but I showed my friend and he said 'oh ****'. We tried rotating the hub and surely enough, the axle would move in and out, so I prolly fucked up where the axle meets the cage where the bearings go or whatever. Can this be fixed or am I looking at purchasing a new axle?

If i understand what you are saying, yes you can take off the boot and put the axle back together, as long as you didnt break anything inside you should be ok.

ya dont pull them to hard. Go get some CV grease and re pack the cv joint. make sure you note the orientation cus it will go in 180 out and not work. There is a smaller side and a larger side.
