his car is a 1999....meaning it is OBD2...paperclip method doesnot work as the code must be pulled via a code scanner etc....see the FAQ section pertaining to the codes starting with the letter "P"...i.e. P0420... all vehicles 1996 and newer must have the code pulled, you CANNOT count flashes on the CEL

Re: lose power in vtec (DOHCed EG)
If your losing power in VTEC your oil pressure is being restricted somewhere...crushed oil pan maybe? The CEL was most likely the VTEC Solenoid....put the car in the air and look for the obvious

So does this apply to all OBD2 Integras? My car is an obd2 and when I had a CEL I used the paper clip method, pulled the code for a primary o2 sensor. Then went to autozone pulled the code with a scanner, and both came out for the primary o2 sensor. I always thought that regaurdless of if you are OBD1 or OBD2, you could pull the code with the paper clip. Can you explain??

Faq says you can plug in an obd2 code reader to get the code; it doesn't say only an obd2 scanner/code reader will work to get the code. Am I missing something??

The paper clip method works quite well on my '97 OBDII.

How do you know its not goin into vtec, more then likely, your 1st gear being the shortest your not goin to hear it, its just goin to rap to redline, in my type-r, i hardly hear vtec ever..in 1st gear, unless i just nail it from 1500 - 9400rpms then i hear it, but if ur just crusing and nailing it its probably going by too fast.. *shrugs* i dunno..

Re: (IntegraType-R)
it's your vtec fluid... make sure to check it... I really can't see the problem. if you have vtec in all your other gears, but not first.
your car has to be warmed up and have oil pressure for vtec to ingage.
speedo must be working for vtec to ingage
other than those two things I havn't a clue.

I'll be nice. There is no VTEC fluid.
The OP needs to pull the CEL code. Until then, it is merely guessing.

Has the CEL illuminated again? If so, pull the code. It will provide much insight. To me, it sounds like your VTEC is not engaging, which would cause the engine to fall on its face near 6000 RPM.

Re: lose power in vtec (HoUTX98GSR)
well after he resetted the ecu, you got to wait til all the o2 senors and etc cone back online. stupid obd2.....after they all come back online again, it will either throw the code again or not. if the obd system isnt up and ready yet, there will be no mad vteccccccccccccccccccc for you.
