legal issue on exhaust in jersey?
I was told by a friend of mine that exhaust are now illegal in NJ, and you can get tickets for it. Is it true?

No, everything should be fine unless you're running an obnoxiously loud straight pipe or something crazy like that.
But then again, cops can do anything they want, remember?
"Son, those headlights are too bright."
"No, they can't be, they're stock."
"Well, I think they're too bright, so here's your ticket, have a good day."
Sucks, but that's the way some cops are.

I think it just depends on the cop.
When I got into an accident a while ago the cop was looking at my bumper and he noticed the Coffee can Greddy Exhaust. He didn't say a word. I had cops tail me... no words.

It really depends on when and where you are. My exhaust is loud and i have had it for 9 months and no problems at all.

do what I did. I took my DC stainless exhaust, cut the "big" part of the tip off, then painted the muffler black, and leave tip polished. Looks very stock, kinda like one of those JDM oval mufflers.

i think i mis-lead you guys on the subject. What i meant to say is..
DMV is not going to pass car that has aftermarket muffler on it. And it's possible that police can give you a ticket for having an aftermarket exhaust

I had an aftermarket exhaust on my old civic..
took it up to the inspection agency in Piscataway the guy quirked at the exhaust but regardless he did pass me. It might just depend on what guy you get..

That's like saying Fire engines and machs should get tickets cause thier loud. It's just cause thier beasty.
In CT, any mod to an exhaust that's not OEM is legal. I was coasting down a hill with my old exhaust in third gear with my foot off the gas and the cop pulled me over. 150 ticket for the exhaust, and 181 for doing 49 in a 25... I was like Buddy. I was coasting... But yeah, it's all about being in the right place at the right time.
