I recently installed a JDM ITR 5 Lug conversion onto my 2001 GSR. When I got the whole conversion, it came with axles and such since the JDM ITRS use 36mm on the hub side instead of 32mm like the USDM. When I installed those axles that i got from the conversion, one of the inner CV boots from the passenger side axle was ripped and all the grease was gone. I installed it anyways to see if it would just work so that I could take care of it later. The thing was, when i compared my regular 32mm stock axle to the JDM ITR axle, the axle was longer. I remember that the JDM ITR's track was 5mm wider on each side but I dont know if this has anything to do with anything. I thought that was weird, but when installing, they fit PERFECTLY. When everything was in, I tried to drive it, there was this bump bump bump feeling/noise that vibrated the whole car BADLY on both driver side and passenger side but more of the passenger side. It was undrivable. I thought it was the torn boot that caused some type of rubbing or something so I went and got a new axle for that side. When purchasing the axle, there was information that I recieved led me to believe that I would be able to use CRV axles since it is 36mm on the hub side and 32 on the inner for the tranny. The axles that I recieved with my 5 Lug conversion was axle marked with CRV + DC2 meaning a fit for both i guess? So I purchased the CRV axles and they were the exact same axles as the ones I had recieved in the conversion. I thought I was in good shape. I installed those and then the noise was still there. I thought it could of been a bad bearing that moved the wheel in and out abnormally on the road or the wheel was not sitting on the hub correctly but I later found out that that was not the problem because I jacked up the car and then jacked up both arms so it would be somewhat of normal driving height. I then put the car in first while on jacks and let it roll. The noise came up. A Bump bump bump noise that vibrates the car. It sounds like something is hitting something. I cannot figure out what it is. Are the axles wrong? They fit perfectly but they ARE longer than my stock gsr 32mm axles. Does that mean anything? Any other inquiries? Please help!

I think that your axles are long, remove the axles and check if the cups where the bearings are scratched up inside it means that the axles are hitting the inside part of the cup then you have to get a shorter axle

When you say that the axles are different lengths, are you compressing both axles to come up with this conclusion? If you are also jacking the car up and compressing the suspension to imitate ride height, where is the bump bump coming from? How much longer are the axles compared to your old ones?


When I did my swap, I had custom axles made just for this very reason. Too much misinformation about what would work floating around.

And yes, when I checked axle lengths, they appeared to be the same length when compressed.

Also, when you have the car jacked up and in gear, does the engine and transmission raise and lower with the bump bump bump?

I did my 5 lug conversion and used my OEM axles and bearings with new US ITR hubs. They worked great.

The axle is about 1 inch and a half longer on both sides. When jacking up the suspension, the axles seem to have compress FULLY. When I put it in first, the whole hub assembly and tranny seem to vibrate with the bump. This is what leads me to believe that it could be the wrong size axles because I cant think of anything else that reproduce that bump. When the suspension was not jacked up, there was no bump. Thanks for everyone's help!

Don't bump threads, it'll get you into trouble.

I was thinking that maybe your axles had bound up and that would cause the entire drivetrain to shift. It feels like you have a HUGE bubble in the tread of your tire while driven.

What I would try is to remove the outter c/v from the stock GSR axle and replace it with the 36mm one. That will fix 'er up. If not, you can buy some aftermarket axles like Raxles or DSS, that would be better than experimenting with factory replacement combos. You could also try an Accord axle, I am not sure of what year or if it would even work.
