issue with distributor,,been threw 2 in 13k miles,,95 gsr
i have a 95 integra gsr
i have 190k miles,,owned it since 152k
orginally my oem distributor went out,and started making bad noises
so i replaced it around 175k miles,,so i drive it
and about 10k miles late it just shuts off on me,,wont start,,tried to turn over,,but nothing
so i buy a new one from advance autoparts cuz thats the only place who had it in stock and this is my daily
so i drive another month or so,and 5k miles,,being today, and it shuts off on me
wont start,,tried to turn over,,but just cranked over and over
so
i go buy a battery and an alternator
just to have
put new battery in ,,and no starting
before i installed the new alternator i took a chance an went and got a new dist
and put that on,,and it started again
so i returned the alternator
now im wondering can i really get 2 bad distributors from advance auto parts
should i spend the over 400$ for a oem one?
is there any way something else can be affecting this?
i know there is a icm in the dist,,along w coil,,and rotor
should i change to a aftermarket dist and external coil?
car just has intake ,header,,and exhaust
nothing else
really had no problems with this besided the distributor,,and a abs sensor
any help would be great
thanks

Get a richporter distributor! there made with all NEW parts! i just picked one up! its the best alternative than a new oem unit.

a used OEM unit ***** on all these aftermarket ones, was in your situations I needed it "that day" a month later the screw came loose and completely destroyed the unit. since then I have went to an importer and got a used one ad simply bought a new cap+rotor from the dealer ship never had any issues.
for some reason no one can make good "aftermarket ignition parts" by that I mean replacement parts ("OE spec") obv my AEM CDI isn't "junk".

ok
i even thought of a msd external coil
that richporter i believe is around 200,,and the oem from a honda parts place online are around the 450 mark
so i may pull the trigger on the richporter soon
the car runs fine and always has,,until this dist ****
both times the car had sat over night,,and both time it wasnt fully warmed up,,and the car shut off both times within a mile of my house,,,was thinkin maybe its a cold issue,,since its been around 20 or so,,even colder,,maybe if i let the car warm up more??
i dont know i dont have any idea
are the advance autoparts just that shitty,,10k on one,,and 5k on another lol
lucky both times i didnt have any of my kids w me lol
thanks guys

Don't any of these distributors have warranties?
Have you considered testing the ICM, coil, or igniter while still installed on the car to maybe narrow down your issue?

In my 94 RS I have a stock distributor with an MSD cap/rotor and off-board MSD blaster coil, the distributor is original "94" and I have 227,000 km on the car, on my sisters Honda Civic, I replaced her distributor with one from PicknPull, that Civic had 275,000 km on it, my sister has put another 50,000 km on it and it still works just fine.
OEM is the best way to go, even if used. 94

well i believe the external coil and new cap and rotor from msd is a lil over 100$ and would prob last longer then the ones i have been getting
most likely im gonna find a used oem one,,or get the richporter once i get the funds
or maybe this one will last longet then 5k,,and the previous one at 10k miles lol

But you haven't determined if the coil was the problem on the last distributor. It might have been the ICM that went out?

no i have not
i have saved somewhere how to test ICM,,and coil w the ohm tester
iv just been in a time crunch both times to take everything off,,and since i bought it from advance auto parts i just took it back
i guess next time ill try and test it,,and then just replace the bad part with something of quality,,i could prob spend 50$ and find a good coil,,or icm for that price
all thats in the dist are the ,,rotor,,coil,,and icm,,correct
