ignition timing problem
Well I have an ignition timing problem, here's what's wrong.
The cams and crankshaft are all lined up. but here's my problem. when we ran a timing light on it, it was firing about at the white line, even with the distributor all the way advanced, it still was only half way between the white mark and the red mark. I can't advance the distributor anymore, and yes the dist. is on there right. the car runs and drives, but anything more than half throttle it stutters.
how can I remedy this problem? any help would be appreciated.

ignition timing isn't the problem it's your camshaft timing, it's off. with the engine off check to see where the cam pulley are and where the crankshaft pulley mark is at. they both should be lining up at their prospective marks for TDC. I'm betting your crankshaft pulley is off that's why when you adjust your ignition timing to the max it won't line up correct. fix the crankshaft pulley timing it should be lining up with the tick mark. if not take the timing belt off and adjust it.

Well when the crankshaft is at the white mark, it's tdc, and I even double checked it using the screw driver trick, seeing if the piston is at the top.
Also when the crankshaft is at TDC, the cams are lined up. so it's all lined up just fine and the crankshaft is fine.

checked your vacuum lines yet? if you got a vacuum leak somewhere it will throw the timing off. also checked your idle speed? and I mean with a seperate tachometer not the one in your instrument cluster because that one is usually off anyways.

Are you checking the timing with the diagnostic connector under the dashboard jumped with a jumper wire? Also are you using a regular inductive timing light, or a timing light with advance?

I am having the same EXACT problem, word for word. I've adjusted my timing belt twice and everything checks out. I notice someone above said to check the vacuum lines. I will try this when it stops raining outside. I think I do have a vacuum leak because my boost gauge is not acting properly. Anyhow, if you find out what the problem is G2Crash, please post an update because I desperately need to know. I will do the same if I fix the problem on my car. Thanks

Well I've been really busy with school and work. but tonight I have some time so I'm going to check vaccum lines, and jump the connector. I"ll post an update. Thanks

ya, same here, I jumped the connector and I just looked over everything no vaccum leaks, nothing out of the ordinary. The distributor is on there right, firing order is right crankshaft and cams are all on there right and the timing belt is correct. I'm firing at TDC, instead of where it's supposed to.
would it hurt to just drill out the holes on the dist. so I could advance it far enough to work?
also is it hurting the motor in anyway, to drive it like it is right now? I've been really easy on it, only driving about 10 miles a day, just where I need to go. TIA

I tried another distributor already and it didn't make a difference. I doubt that one was bad but it might be possible to have 2 bad ones.
Anyways, something is wrong in the ecu, when I jump the connector it won't go back to base timing. I'm throwing a tps code cuz my tps is broke. so I'll see what happens when I get a new tps.
