I found a coupon in the phone book for $89 labor, I bought the parts at the dealership.

honda's book time is 2.0 hours for warrenty or 2.9 hours for non/warrenty repair. multiply that by the average hourly rate of $75...

forgot, add 0.3 hours for water pump in the repair.

That's why, a little more than two hours is a little more than $150. They might have inflated the price of your mechanics as well, the honda people in my area make something like $80-85 an hour.

the belt itself is $60 but i've heard dealers ask up to $100 for it. It takes me 3 hours at home with no air tools and no lift. So 2 hours sounds about right. Difference is I'd do it for a case of Corona

yea, before i started getting into all this diy stuff, I paid 225 to get my timing belt changed. it was bullshit. I could have done it myself in an hour plus the cost of the belt (like 50 bux at most).

I get charged $200 for labor in San Francisco. If you are around then it is about right.

If you are in midwest, then it is high.

when a shop does it for under $100.. you might not get what you pay for

we went to a shop to get the oil pan gasket done.. cost $90 instead of $150 at our regular mechanic

needless to say it leaked worse after it was changed and it musta had $90 of blue gasket maker on it because it was all over.. the mechanic even put it on the bolts tring to stop the leak

not only that but somehow he got ahold of a cork gasket.. not even autozone sells a cork one.. havent seen one since lol

for major services, DON'T BE A ******* CHEAPSKATE!!!!! go to the dealer with your $5000 investment (your car) and just pay the money to have it done RIGHT the first time and be on your way!

Correct, this is what Acura charges. Several years ago, it was $775 or so. Cheaper to go to a smaller shop, and definitely cheaper to do it yourself if you can.

Parts and labor, I was quoted around $350 last week. Thinking about possibly doing it myself.

Last year I was quoted $400 or more from 3 local shops. I decided to do it myself for around $100. If you have a problem loosening the crank pulley bolt, just take it to a local garage and have them use an impact wrench on it to break it free, then tighten to around 80 lb/ft so when you get back home, it will come off.
