Default How much brake fluid for a full bleed?

Hi,

Wondering how much brake fluid you guys use for a full brake bleed? I am converting my '00 EJ Civic to rear discs with a salvaged '94 Integra MC + booster (it had ABS) seen here:

I have 1L of ATE Super Blue and am trying to figure out if I will need to run to the store and get another mid-job, or water it down with lesser brake fluid.

Everything else is the same, so mainly just curious how much the bigger MC reservoir increases the amount of fluid required. (Well I haven't done a full bleed yet anyways, so I wouldn't really know where to start, but I'm guessing 1L would be enough for stock Civic MC)

TIA

I am not sure how much you will need, but you should just buy two liters, and if you don't need the second one, take it back!! Better safe than sorry

Yeah, that's what I am planning on doing now =P

One of them is from Tirerack, but I should be able to find a store that carries it locally

it took me almost a full litre
but I was being really picky and pumping fluid through well after it cleared

that does not include the abs, which I havent flushed yet

Get two. Depending on how dirty the system is you will defenatly need atleast 1.

agreed

maybe get 2 litres and a small can

that way if you go over one litre just a tad, you wont need to waste a liter for a 1/4 cup of fluid

remember, if you dont use the fluid right away, toss it. it starts going bad as soon as you open it, lid or not

Thanks for the replies

Now I don't feel so bad about picking up another liter. Cost 20 bucks this time. Ouch!

I should have just bought the two from Tirerack initially(for 12 ea.), had no idea the local place would charge so much more, but good brake fluid isn't cheap I guess, and everything else going into this project cost a lot more.

The fluid in the system right now is dirtier than all getup so I'll probably make good use of the 2Ls. =P

Do you mean a flush, or a bleed? You say bleed but it sounds like you're talking about a flush.

Bleeding the brake fluid is letting your current fluid drain through the system, adding if necessary, to get any air bubbles out.

Flushing is when you replace ALL the brake fluid in the system.

Flush then. Sorry for using improper terminology.. still fairly inexperienced, but I know what the job requires, and I know how to bleed/flush brakes, so it should go pretty well.

I'm changing all of the brakes hoses as a part of this job as well, so with 4 year old, dirty, dirty fluid in there, it would be stupid not to do a flush.
