I just scrapped my header today going 10mph. damn pothole. I checked it afterward and saw a flat scape 2cm(width)x4cm(length). I tried to avoid it by going slowly, If I had gone any faster it would have been worse.
I heard that if you got a hole in the header, you could patch it up with some material.
Can I go to auto shop and get some of those stuffs and patch up that area. Even though I didn't get a hole on the header yet, I just want to cover the flat part up and make it round again.

ANY PICS of SCRAPPED HEADERS?

I didn't know I scratched it until I did an oil change.
DC 4-1 ceramic, but not that bad. Mine was just scraped a lil' bit.

Big Teggie, OMFG MAN!!!! thats how my first dc 4-1 looked like.. IT WAS SICK... i was afraid of too much back pressure.. now i have a JDM dc 4-1.. i think it hangs even lower.. i have a few scrapes.. not too bad tho....

Ouch, it hurts to even look at that pic! I live in pothole city... so now I'm going to check my headers. If any damages show up I'll take some pics.

after we installed it... i found it was also bent.. so it annoyingly hit the bottom of the block.. to make things worse.. mr. gasket didn't hold after i took it for a few runs in palmdale(drag racing).. i swear.. i thought i had turbo that day.. and this blue WRX thought i did too(he wanted to race).. there was an huge exhaust leak that sounded like a blowoff valve.. after the two hour trip back home.. i crawled under my car.. and found.. http://www.geocities.com/sonicblueteg/blowngasket.JPG

mines a little scraped ... but not like that pic lol .. thats crucial ... dunno about what you can put on it ... those headers get insanely hot .... hot enough that you would stick to it .. if you touched it while hot .... sooo im not quite sure what you could put on it that wouldnt burn off ...

got dayam! i thought my headers were in bad shape! nuthin like this shiet! anyways, happens to pretty much EVERYONE w/ a lowered car, and it's even worse on 4-1 headers since they hang lower than 4-2-1.

I recently banged my headers too, no holes in them or anything. Just a nice clean scrape, no change in the shape of the metal or anything, thank god. Stock GS-R headers btw . I think I'm going to hunt down aftermarket headers with the best ground clearence and do without the extra 1-2 hp going with jdm 4-1. Does anyone have any info on the JDEdelbrok header in terms of clearence and hp gains? I've been hearing good things about their intake mani's.

I scraped mine the second and third day after i got them. I was going to jiffy lube and i tried to slow down to go up the ramp, but it wasnt slow enough! u have to get used to driving with them, and think before u just drop of or go up something.

any1 know where else to get the guards/sheilds for ur headers? the ones that fastline makes are only for the jdm 4-1. i remembered some dude made his own, any1 remerbered how that worked? any other place that sells a universal gaurd?

i don't even remember scraping my header, but during an oil change, i noticed a few minor scratches on my jdm dc 4-1 header. i guess it's nearly impossible to prevent it since it was all just normal driving...

Mine looks like sonicblueteg's header, except both pipes are flattened, i've scraped it a load of times going over ramps etc.

I lightly scraped my Hy-Tech header, I almost had a heart attack. I need to design a skidplate for it.

I've got a few scrapes and dents in my header also. It doesn't matter how careful you are sometimes. That's life with a lowered car.

I think everyone who has lowered their car a decent amount has scraped their header one time or another..

mine isn't as bad as the pic above (posted by big teggie) but I'm really careful w/ my cars and so are most of my friends and I think all of us who have our cars lowered approx 2" or so have had some header scrapage... I think most people w/ a decently agressive drop (Eibach sportlines, H&R sports, race springs, etc.. ) have had a scrape incident w/ their front end.. especially the bottom bolts that hold the front bumper to the frame..mine are all scraped up.. as well as scraped header and possible B-pipe and muffler tip from going over/out driveways, and speedbumps... its kind of unavoidable once you lower it a decent amount...

That Fastline skidplate is pretty cool. I'll have to get one when I replace my Comptech header with a "JDM" 4-1, which doesn't scrape. Unfortunately, my oil pan does and I already had to replace it once... which I replaced once because the service advisor told me that would reduce oil circulation. I was young at the time and believed him.
