Default how, EXACTLY, do you wire up vtec?

okay i know this may be a noob question but i havent found the EXACT answer(s) i have been looking for

i have a 92 integra ls that im swapping an obd1 b16 into, using the stock wiring harness and a chipped obd1 vtec ecu from phearable.net and i need to know EXACTLY how to wire up vtec, im not looking for answers like "its easy just 3 wires", where do these three wires go exactly, how do i connect these wires exactly, where do they start, where do they end? do i need any tools, do i need to heat shrink or solder anything? how do i do that? i heard about pinning or de pinning on the ecu, whats that? how do i do it? im swapping in a b16 using my LS distributor (dont know if that makes a difference or not) i bought a vtec subharness off of rywire, but i need my car complete in the next 2 days and if it doesnt get here im doing it the old fashioned way i guess

ive read all the B series swap guides i can get my hands on and all of them say "wire up the 3 wires for vtec" or "vtec wiring is easy, theres only 3 wires" i never hear or see EXACTLY how to do it, just the basic, which is no help to me

basically i need to know every step and exactly what to do, preferably with some pics to help me out, i am a COMPLETE noob when it comes to wiring, mechanics im good, wiring not so much, please help me out, thanks

Well with the sub harness all you will need to do is de pin at the ECU and re-pin using the sub harness. De-pinning is where you remove a wire at the ECU plug and re-pinning is where you put another wire back in that position. Since your car is an LS, I dont think you will need to de-pin anything at the plug, since you never had vtec, but you will need to add the wires from the sub harness into the plug, that way the ECU can tell your vtec when to engage. It's complicated, somewhat, but a very easy process. See what you have on the vtec is 1) ground, 2) Vtec Pressure switch, and 3) vtec solenoid, those are the three wires you need to wire up. The ground, just needs to be connected to a good ground. The pressure switch needs be pinned into the plug that goes into your ECU, and the same goes for the solenoid wire. Your solenoid is that cylindrical thingy right in front of the distributor if you're looking at the motor. The pressure switch is just under it with two wires (ground, and signal). Now you may be asking where to pin these, well you need to look up the pins on your ECU. Just do a google search, and search by your ECU whether it be a p30, p28, p72, etc...these will tell you which are which. To search the ECU pins, just search up the ecu + pinout (ex P28 pinout). I believe for obd1 ecu's, you need to use pin A4 for the solenoid, and d6 for the pressure switch. Here's a pic to help you out...

This should be all you need...

hmmm so to de pin all i need to do is pull the wire out? how do i secure the new wire in? i get the pinout but im confused on how the wire comes out and how you secure it once you put it back in.

also where does the vtec subharness begin and where does it end? how does it integrate into my stock LS harness and where? pics anyone?

from what i hear its not that hard, i mean i understand the pinout and everything, but with the subharness, idk where it starts and where it ends, if im gonna have to pin any wires, as fas as the pinout and where the wires go im good, but when in comes to pinning and de pinning, connecting wires, and messing with the harness im stumped, theres just TOO many wires, i was really hoping that somebody thats using the vtec subharness from rywire on their 0bd1 ls harness to chime in with some pictures to help me out, im sure there have to be some people on the board that are using these with their LS harness

never did the Vtec, but i did trick my ecu to stock throwing code 54(Crank Position Sensor). This was done by repining the 2 wires from cps to cys, basically like a matching game. The cys wires were already in the ecu harness so i imagine that my job was easier than this.

I do not know the technical terms but in order for you to understand I will explain this way:
Take any harness from any electrical item and use a very small and fine jewelry flathead screwdriver to pry out the wire from the harness(research if need to). See how that is? take that wire and place it in your empty harness slot for where you want to wire your vtec. Take the wire you just put in and extend it to where you want to go.
That's what I would do with my non professional knowledge.

Here is what the wiring harness will look like

It comes with instructions, all you do is plug in the 3 connectors where they go (explained above) then you will have to run the wires to the ecu.

To add wires to the ecu plug you need a special crimper tool (it can be done the ghetto way with normal pliers) Then you will need some of these little things to put on the end of the wire.

Once thos are on the wire they will push right into the ecu plug and stay.

You say you bought your ecu from John V (Phearable.net)? you should email him with any questions , he helped resolve this matter for me + his website has how-to pic on how to de-pin the wires from the ECU plug.
http://www.phearable.net/tech/...l.jpg

As far as the Rywire subharness (which I have on my LS-Vtec) Ryan sent me a subharness which i routed seperate from the main harness directly to my ECU, also the wires were just plain black, green, and white (not color mixed like a factory harness). On my sub harness the Green wire goes to the Vtec Pressure switch pin-out, and the Black goes to the Vtec Solenoid pin-out, white for a GSR IAB's which isnt applicable in my case since I have a B16 head.

The rest is just a matter of pinning the vacant locations on your LS ECU plug which you can do with a few small tools (IE small screwdriver, needle nose plyers, etc) . Read up and Goodluck!

Note, If you use a B16 Obd1 wire harness then you need to look in the manual of the year/model/make that the harness came from to identifiey the colors of the Vtec pressure switch wire & Vtec solenoid wire.

thank you all i managed to do this tonite when my subharness came, only one problem, i moved the ecu after pinning in the wires and one broke off almost flush witht he clip luckily there was just enough that i could solder the wire back together

maybe its just me but i think this thread should be added to the FAQ in the integra forum, there is no thread that tells how to wire vtec this in-depth, that i have seen, im gonna try and get ahold of some ppl to get this added to the integra forum FAQ

I beg to differ...somewhere on this site is a short but very detailed write up on how to wire it all up. THat's where I got mine from in order to do my b16 wiring in my crx back in the day...

yeah im talking about in the "integra forum" because vtec on a Crx/EF is very diff, to me anyways, i mean this is excellent for anybody with an LS integra doing a b16 swap, or gsr swap, all the info i saw for crx's and EF's was mixed in with DPFI to MPFI (or whatever it is) along with other info and was confusing to me, not useful for wiring up an integra, this thread on the other hand, cleared up ALL my questions

when i looked, i looked in the Integra FAQ, because my car is an integra, not in the Crx/EF forum, why would i look there? thats why im saying, add it to the integra FAQ because people with integras are more likely to look in the integra FAQ when they need to know this info, not the Crx/EF forum

If the car wasn't vtec before, you will need to wire it in to the ecu. (hopefully you have a vtec ecu to make this work.) It isn't hard, and the diagrams are on this page. PM me and I could help you through this.
