Home made poly mounts - HUGE dissappointment.
These things turned out like ***...and they're still not dry.
Started out ok...got the mounts off, cleaned them with gas. Started to fill the crevasses, but the **** is too thin. All it does it leak out the other side. The ONLY way I could see this working is if you had some Energy Suspension inserts to keep the goo in place. Did this 12 hours ago and it's still not close to being dry. Just picked one up to check and ALL the **** slimed out.
Waste of 20 bucks for the window-weld.
Might try it again some time, but I'll duck tape one side to keep the goo in place until dry. Anybody know how long it takes to dry?
In the mean time I'm stuck with no car and a HUGE mess.
The mounts are a ****** mess now...gonna be a lot harder to do it the second time around. I don't know if I could even get inserts to fit at this point...

Wow that's incredible, some background information would help with your rambling.
What were you trying to do? Make poly inserts or mounts?
If you were trying to make mounts, dont' wast your time, just buy inserts and do them all its 30$ of parts and they fit right in, just do them all. Unless your doing some outrageous HP # then they should suit you just fine.

Well, the mounts were completely destroyed. I mean like two pieces each. So I wanted to fill them to make them an effective "solid" mount for cheap. I've used the inserts on torn mounts before and they didn't do ****.
Here's a pic of the ****** mess...
They should look like this...

you should let it dry for 24 hours. I was on that importnut site yesterday reading on the diy poly mounts.

I'm thing about just welding them solid. That should fix the problem...permanently. Or, maybe I'll find some washers that will fit on the inside.
That could work, too.

First off, STOP SMOKING WEED...Then you can figure out to block the other side with anything...Even Aluminum Foil or Saran Wrap...

No ****, but I didn't figure that out until all the goo was on my workbench.

Yea, I've had them before. They don't do **** by themselves. If I have to window weld it anyway, I might as well skip the inserts.

actually, the window weld worked well for me, i only did the rear mount...i had no gooey problem at all, the urethane was fairly solid, but the tube was also sitting in my garage for about 2 months before i broke down and did it, bu from what i have been told, make sure you block one side and let them dry for a minimum of 24 hours, urethane is a huge mess when its wet, but once it dries its all good, just make sure you get all the air bubbles out when you are toolin them off to make sure there is not weak spots inside....

Im getting ready to do one of my mounts as well.... what skills do i need to have to do it... Its funny i stumbled apon this because i havent done this yet because I feel like this EXACT thing would happen: not being able to smooth everything out and get all the air bubbles out.
I got inserts for the other three mounts; and i filled those too; but the tranny one doesnt come with one...(insert)

i did this with my mounts as they were all torn up. Just take cardboard and put wax paper over it, thats what i did, stick it on the back fill it up. I forget what I used. Came in a caulk tube, polyeurethane contractors grade or something really durable. FIll it up, wait a day. Take the backing off and youll probably notice that the caulk was to thick and didnt go all the way through, then fill the backside of it up. I let it dry for 2 days. All done. There def. stiff mounts though.

that urethane looks to be the wrong consistency...the one to use is the one that u HAVE to use the gun to squeeze out its really thick and sticky...not gooey as i see there let them dry overnight and i couldnt tell they werent solid mounts

I dont know what the problem is.
I didnt cover the opposite side when I did mine. I just smoothed it out with a scraper when it was full. I squeezed it in gradually. Took me 10 mins time for ALL the mounts. I didnt have a gun. I just pushed the bottom of the tube with the handle of a hammer. They took long to dry. In all honesty about 3 DAYS to dry. But they are rock solid now.
It was seriously the easiest thing Ive ever done in my life.
Oh and I paid about 5.50 for the tube at H-D. 1 tube is all thats needed.
