Default 94ls vs 90gs

I have a stock 90 GS that ive had for a few months. My friend just bought a 94 LS under some pretty shady circumstances. He got it for around 4000 and it has 90,000 miles and 1 owner. After they bought it from the guy he did a whole bunch of work on it at no extra charge. When they get it back the callipers in the front are messed up so they have to take it back. Im pretty suspicious of all this and the fact that they didnt even try to talk the guy down was weird but they seem to think its great. In the past few months of driving stick, ive learned how to wind the crap out of my car and i was pretty impressed with the overall performance. I did an online stock comparison of the 2 cars and found they were pretty much the same. I figured his would be faster due to the higher rpm range, Hp and lower weight. So im in his car yesterday and take it out for about a half an hour. First thing i notice was that the guy obviously put a short shift kit in so everything was not oem for sure. I get to a stretch of about 55 and decide to get on it. It was so icredibly sluggish a almost thought i was in the wrong gear. So i try it again and the same thing. The rpms are getting up there and the engine sounds ok but it just wasnt going anywhere. Aparrently the guys replaced almost everything withing a year prior, timing belt, water pump, clutch, etc. I didnt say anything to my friend but i have the feeling this car is just gonna puke in a little while. What do you guys think about this?

Sorry about the long post for a simple question.

ive looked at the motor a few times and although the layout is a little different than mine it all looks stock, no vtec. I just think this car is messed up and they just got screwed.

possibly...it might just need a tune up tho...but in any case, that sucks

cuz like i said, i can get my ls to get up and go pretty good minus the vtec aspect and usually pulls hard through 4200-6000rpms

one odd thing about the motor however. every single car ive seen with over 40,000 miles has a somewhat dirty motor. you open up the hood and it looks kinda old. the first time i opened his up everything was so clean you could eat off it. Although you wouldnt really do that ive never seen a privately owned car look like that, only from the dealership. Also the previous owner said he moved a lot and didnt have a lot of stuff for the car, like a 2nd ignition key and the manual. Finally my friend found it in the paper but it wasnt in the two main papers here. It was in a little one only which also made me suspicious.

yeah def some weird **** there... but with the engine compartment and all..it's a matter of how you keep it up. i have a 94ls that's been babied..im the 3rd owner and i know only have 83k orig miles on her. it's all a matter of how u maintain it.

i was very fortunate in the fact i bought my car from a friend of mine who was upgrading to an rsx. you only had the car for 6k mi or so and never made any mods to it except for springs and shocks. before him the car was owned by a retired state trooper who never even drove the car. it just sat in his garage cuz he apparantely blew out his knee or some ****. but anyway, it's a matter of up keep on the engine. always keep an eye out for leaks and worn hoses. the only major thing ive had to replace on the motor was a new radiator and camseal and valve cover gasket. that's it. im approaching time for a major tune up tho. new wires, plugs, water pump, timing belt, poss a new clutch..haven't decided yet, valve adjustment, cap/rotor. my **** should be running like brand new, not that it already doesn't. just keep up the reg maint. and you'll be good to go

my brother hasa 95 ls and i have a 91 ls and mines pull harder than his...so try out another 94-95 ls and compare the difference you probably won't see much difference...when stock the car doesn't pull...that hard his car only has 103k original miles
