Sound like a bad cataletic converter, get under and tap it with a hammer when the car is off, see if it rattles.

Ya they rattle inside sometimes. Did you use the spring bolts or flex pipe between theheader and cat?

I'm not sure, but I don't think its internal to the motor. I think it might be a bad diff. Thought it could have been a hub but you said it makes the soud in neutral.... maybe something rubbing & vibrating that can only be heard in that RPM range

i dont either the motor is very young and fresh and runs 100% strong i would know or can tell if the power was off or falling of at any certain rpm but its smooth and strong all the way till 7k i havent really pushed it passed that so far but remember this motor was fine before and it has been super charged twice and ran stock for a while to and never had any issues like this now that its back to stock. i doubt its a bad diff, its a brand new usdm ITR trans from the dealer, i am however experiencing some harsh shifting now, im really thinking it could be the clutch some how but this is fkn wierd!

Go take the car for a quick drive. Get it to make the noise at 3100rpms or where ever its most prevalent and slightly depress the clutch pedal. Basically take up the pedal free play and push it in a bit. This will just rule out the throw out bearing. Worth a shot even though the bearing is new. If the noise happens to stop my money would be on the throw out bearing.
Are you sure you torqued down the flywheel properly?

lol fixed! it was the down tube on the oem gsr header i was using, it was ratling inside right where the collector is. I just used a spare one i had that was welded there previously, i just used that one cause i thaught it was in better condition but i guess i was wrong and this must be a common problem cause i looked at the other header i used and it was previously welded in the past, it must of had the same rattle at some point when i didnt own the car.
